The rumor of a Lamborghini SUV has been kicking around since the day the LM002 died. Bentley has confirmed theirs, Maserati is set on the Kubang; if there is a perfect time for a new Lamborghini SUV, now's it. And if there's any place to reveal a quarter-million-dollar SUV, it's Beijing.
Italian publication quattroroute.it has leaked this image of an Aventador with ground clearance purporting to be the new Lamborghini SUV. It's unclear at this point if it's a leak or a rendering, but based on how similar this looks to an Aventador, we're thinking rendering. Powering the ultra-SUV will be the Gallardo's V10 in base trim and a top-trim hybrid drivetrain -- due in 2015-- cranking out 700 hp. The hybrid part of this rumor sounds unlikely by 2015.
Going along with the rendering/leak is the rumor that Lamborghini will will show the first concept of this at the Beijing Motor Show in April.

In what must be an ecological scandal of unparalleled scope in Portland -- at least if Portlandia is to be trusted -- a Lamborghini Gallardo has caught fire outside of the Portland International Auto Show. (Can we just ditch the 'international' title from all of these yet?)
How? Glad you asked! Fire marshals won't allow any car into the building that has more than 1/4 tank of fuel. The Gallardo had more than that and was refused entry. So what did the private owner do? Fun run? Nope! They put a block of wood between the seat and the gas pedal and let it bounce of the rev limiter for a few minutes. Read that again and facepalm.
We know a lot of good ways to burn fuel, this is not one of them.

Already bored with the car selection of Forza 4? Yeah, we haven't either. We've barely played beyond the Kia Cee'd on the Top Tear Test Track.
But that's not stopping the guys at Forza. They've just announced the November Speed Pack which includes the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, Aston Martin Virage, Audi Sport Team Joest R15++ TDI, Audi RS3 Sportback, 1957 Chevy Bel Air(!), 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8, 2011 Ferrari #62 Risi Competizione F458 Italia, 2011 Volkswagen Sciorocco R and, last but not least, the 1992 GMC Typhoon.
Having a Typhoon is worth my $7.

The steering wheel is one of the first things you see when you enter a car's cabin, and it's a part of the car that you constantly interface with during the driving experience. The best ones look great and feel even better, working in synergy with the car's themes and motifs to present a consistent message.

Marketing types know the power of a great logo. The best ones present an evocative invitation, one that perfectly reflects the brand's image.
Logos can be especially compelling in the automotive industry.

Oh yes we did. Inside Line recently caught up with the only 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 rolling display chassis in existence and had our way with it at a nearby Lamborghini/Aston Martin service facility.
What's more, this beautiful piece of one-of-a-kind automotive sculpture has been sold to an unnamed private owner in the Far East. Once it completes a couple more exclusive corporate appearances it's destined to be crated up and shipped to an undisclosed private location, never to be seen again.
I'm totally geeked out. Kurt Niebuhr's shutter finger has never been itchier. Let's get on with it.

Phew, I was worried that headline wasn't going to fit on two decks. Seriously, couldn't they have thunk up more names to slap on there? How about a Mambo Italiano for good measure? Follow the jump for our man Alistair Weaver's take on this wild Lambo from the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.
Teaser: We need to get him to say "adolescent doodle" more often.

Overblown theatrics, fireballs, a dozen vehicle introductions, stifling heat and no food? No, that's not the auto show -- it's Volkswagen Group Night, the company's pre-event extravaganza held the Monday evening before the auto show, which starts in a few hours. Man, I've got to get some sleep.
You might think that introducing your cars before the auto show renders their auto show reveal somewhat redundant, but hey, when in Frankfurt...
On the plus side, it was the first time we'd seen some of the VW Group's new cars in the metal.
Here are the top four cars of Volkswagen Group Night.

I was going to be subtle about this, but then Magrath demanded I admit that "This past weeked I drove a Bentley to Pebble Beach because I'm a stupid spoiled jerk. The Continental was acceptable, I guess, but once in Monterey, I threw the key to some guy in a VW hat and insisted they get me something more befitting my dirigible-sized ego. 'Something with weird doors,' I said, 'And don't you dare get me metallic paint little man!'" There we go, can I begin now?
The Lamborghini Aventador is intimidating. It's not the flat-black paint or the razor-sharp styling. It's not the 690-horsepower V12 behind my shoulder or the Lamborghini lore of punishing overzealous drivers. It's not even the sky-high price. No, it's the indisputably alien nature of the car.
I delicately plop myself around the scissor door into the low-slung cockpit. The windshield seems to start an absolute mile away and then with its extreme rake terminates just above the wheel. The side windows dive down toward tiny quarter mirrors and are dominated by angular, wide mirrors. The view rearward is like spying on someone through an airvent. The starter button hides under a little red panel like it launches a bomb; the paddle shifters look like a ninja weapon. I'm used to driving a car, not an alien spacecraft that should have stars zooming past the windows.

So there's this website called Groupon, you may have heard of it, and today they're offering Angelinos a special car themed deal. But this isn't another shot at car sales-- which was a spectacular fail the first time -- it's a supercar rental deal.
For the big G, Chimera Exotics has cut 62% from its $1,299 daily rental of the Lamborghini Gallardo, offering up the Raging Bull for 24 hours for "only" $499. The catch? Only 70 miles are allowed. But with a fee of $3/mile once you crest 70, you could throw on another 266 miles with the money shaved off the original price.
These supercar rental fleets are everywhere lately (this one is less than two blocks from my apartment) and I'm torn about it. For the guys who just want to drive a car they'd never normally get to, it's cool and for $500? That seems like a deal. But for the guys who do it to show up at a club? Ehhhh, not so cool.
Full Groupon description after the jump....

This is Robert Himler and his mom. She's kind of hot and he's a 20-year old computer dork. A computer dork with a Lamborghini Gallardo. That's been twin-turbocharged by Underground Racing. To the tune of 1,250 wheel horsepower.
Himler is one of the more likeable rich-kids we've seen and seems to have his head screwed on the right way, except when it comes to driving like a gentleman with his mom riding shotgun. Her panic is our gain, though, as Himler has a very active (and, shock, profitable) YouTube account where he's uploaded the account.
I'm still waiting for a mother-in-law video....

Lamborghini has just announced a new Super Sport Car that will be racing towards the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.
It seems safe to assume that with the phrasing ("super sports car", "racing towards") that this will be the production version of the Sesto Elemento that we've been waiting for since the 2010 Paris Auto Show. It's too soon for a Balboni Aventador and a new Gallardo edition is hardly show-worthy anymore....So Elemento it is.
Shortly after the wildly positive reaction to the Sesto Elemento concept, rumors began swirling that the car was already in the advanced stages of product planning and that Lamborghini was set to release 20 of the 5.2-liter V10-powered, 2,200-lb track-only toys at a price of $2.9 million each.
Look for more information as we get closer to the September 13th release.

So g
Brian Johnson, AC/DC frontman, absolutely killed it when he was the star in a reasonably priced car on the Real Top Gear. So good I forgot I hated AC/DC. Sort of like how Jay Kay made me forget how horrible Jamiroquai is.
And now we're getting more of Brian, but not on Top Gear, he's guest starring on The Car Show this week where he'll be driving a Lamborghini....through Manhattan.
Other clips in the teaser video include teaching girls to drive a manual transmission and, interestingly, Dan Neil testing the Ferrari 458. We'd have thought it'd be Adam as he's the show's star and a huge Ferrari guy. Let's see if Dan can review it better than he can drift it.

From the pushrod suspension and its 690-horsepower V12 to the so-crazy-even-for-a-Lamborghini body, the Lamborghini Aventador has us hooked in a way that the Murcielago never did.
And as you can imagine, it takes a lot of work to take a supercar from whatever the Italian equivalent of "Hey, guys, let's build something like this and make it out of this crazy stuff," to a production version. So here's an artistic interpretation of what it takes to go from a sketch to a full blown Aventador courtesy of Lamborghini's PR dept.

In both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne drives around Gotham in a Lamborghini Murcielago. Anyone speak Spanish? See what they did there?
You see class, "murcielago" en Espanol translates into bat. Ahh, clever, isn't it?
Well, for the third film in Christopher Nolan's Batman relaunch, The Dark Knight Rises, Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne shall drive a new Lamborghini Aventador. However, according to Google translator, aventador means "fan" (as in a spinny thing, not a devoted follower). It can also apparently means a winnowing fork, whatever the hell that is.
So there you have it, a Spanish lesson and some movie news. The Dark Knight Rises has a release date of July 20, 2012 and will star Anne Hathaway as Catwoman plus some other people. Probably should've led with that, it's far more interesting.

There's a great Johnny Cash song, One Piece at a Time, where the song's protagonist decides that, despite being a line-worker for GM, he really deserves him a Cadillac. To achieve this noble goal, it's not hard work and maybe some night school he decides upon, but stealing it one piece at a time and then reassembling it in his garage.
This is sort of like that but backwards. Lamborghini wanted to display the all-new Aventador at the Chiostro del Bramante museum in Rome as part of 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. Trouble is, Aventadors are huge and the museum is located in a very old church in Rome and is very old. And being a Bramante (St. Peter's Basillica), they didn't really want Lamborghini tearing down a bunch of walls. So they had to take apart the car....
