This is yet another attempt to bring back the Trans Am glory days. It has the name and a big 455 V8 up front, but the Lingenfelter 455 T/A just doesn't look right.
Essentially a new Camaro with a heavy makeover, the LPE 455 T/A's proportions are all wrong. If anything, this vehicle highlights the size differences between the new Camaro and the first-generation version. Add on all the Trans Am bodywork and it only gets worse.
At least there's some real muscle under the hood. Lingenfelter built an all-aluminum 455 that the company claims makes 655 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque. There's a heavy-duty clutch setup and reinforced half shafts that feed the power to 20-inch honeycomb wheels with 315/35ZR20 tires.

We knew they were coming. Camaros, and lots of them. Some would show up wearing tasteful modifications that would build on the coupe's already striking shape.
And others? Well, they would blow well past the limits of good taste and head straight into the SEMA zone, an area where usable tires, subtle paint jobs and modest amounts of chrome and carbon are rarely applied. The Camaros in our hall of shame are evidence that you want to avoid the SEMA zone and keep it simple. Please.

Carbon fiber usually isn't something you bother with on a pickup truck. Saving a little weight up top probably isn't going to make up for the giant steel ladder frame hung underneath; at least that's what people with budgets tend to think.
The Silverado ZR2 wasn't constructed with that mentality, though, as it features a carbon-fiber hood, fenders, rocker extensions and tailgate. There's also a 550-horsepower supercharged LS V8 under the hood and 35-inch tires at each corner. None of that is cheap, either. Then again, that's what concepts are all about. Just don't expect to see many of these parts in a dealer catalog any time soon.

Well, not all of it will be production, but GM Vice President of Design Ed Welburn did note that there will be a special-edition Camaro available early next year in this very color. He also noted that the rear spoiler will eventually become a factory accessory if you're into that sort of thing.
Actually, many of the exterior pieces found on the Camaro Synergy are already factory accessories, like the front and rear fascias and extended rocker panels. A lowering kit, upgraded brakes and a few interior upgrades are the only non-factory parts on this project.

Yes, another Jay Leno project car from GM. This time it's a twin-turbo version of the 2010 Camaro V6. Leno says it makes 425 horsepower thanks to the addition of Turbonetics T-3 turbos and an air-to-air intercooler. And who are we to doubt the Great Leno?
Developed as a modern day Z-28 of sorts, this Camaro also sits lower on revised springs and uses a six-piston Brembo brake package. There are also revised front and rear fascias and even functional brake-cooling ducts in the rear quarter panels.
Jay told GM's chief designer Ed Welburn that this is what a new Z-28 should be: lightweight and able to turn. Welburn just smiled and nodded like he always does, so whether this is a hint of things to come is anybody's guess.

Welcome to the SEMA Show 2009.
That's what I said to myself when I arrived at the Las Vegas Convention Center today and found this radical flat silver 2010 Chevy Camaro SS in the DUB booth on my way to pick up my media credential. See those Forgiato wheels. Well, they measure 24-inches in diameter and wear massive Pirelli tires; 275/25ZR24 front and 405/25ZR24 rear. No that is not a typo.
Oh yeah, and it's for sale.

GM has decided to delay the launch of the 2011 Cruze compact sedan until late next summer to ensure quality according to a report in the Detroit News. The car is already on sale in other world markets.
According to GM's spokesman, the delay "will give GM time to produce all variations of Cruze models." We assume he means all the engine, transmission, options variations for the Chevrolet Cruze sedan.

So after the official event was over, a silver CTS-V circled the track stupid fast and occasionally sideways. He was listed on the timing and scoring screen as "Mystery Driver." Very intriguing, no?
Who was this man who posted a fastest lap of 2:45:537? Was it Cadillac's Stig? Well, sort of.
Speed TV was out filming the day's event for an upcoming program with a full crew. Yes, there was a helicopter involved. Seems the folks at Speed wanted to have a little extra angle on this event since it's been blogged to death already (trust us, we know). So they brought their own driver and refused to say who it might be. But to beat Heinricy, he'd have to be a pro.
That cover was a bit blown when we saw Corvette racer Johnny O'Connell walking out of Monitcello in a 'Speed" racing suit.
"Nice driving, Johnny," we say.
"Oh thanks, that was fun."

You know what we were just saying around the office? That an LS9-powered 2010 Camaro is so, I don't know, two months ago.
What a guy needs now is a full 7.0 liters of heavy-breathing General V8 in his Camaro. That's right, the modern 427 cu in, the LS7 from the Corvette Z06. But because that motor's measily 505 horsepower is too Honda Fit-like, we recommend a man straps a big blower on top -- maybe a Magnusson/Eaton TVS 2300. And it should breathe through a custom Lingenfelter intake. It should have forged pistons, titanium connecting rods and LS7 cylinder heads with titanium intake valves and Inconel exhuast valves. That'll should be good for a nice, rough 750 horsepower. This would be exactly the motor Lingenfelter Performance Engineering has built for this, the Supercharged LS7 Camaro.
The company also threw on its full body kit, custom 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels and some fat Pirelli rubber. The car also gets a full compliment of interior bits and pieces along with a suspension built by Hotchkis including sport springs, adjustable antiroll bars and subframe brace.
Look for it at the Hotchkis stand at SEMA or just look for it on you computer screen when we cover the thing live from the show beginning November 3.

With a contest to name one of the Volt paint colors, Chevrolet has now officially pulled out all of the stops to try to keep the plug-in, er, extended-range electric vehicle in the public consciousness.
Here's the deal: You choose a winning name for the exclusive Volt color that Chevy is tentatively and alluringly referring to as "silver exterior with an emerald hue," and the company will fly you and a guest to Los Angeles for two nights of "standard hotel accommodations," whatever that means, a $400 gift card and admission to the LA auto show on December 2. In fact, Chevy is going to take three finalists to LA, and announce the winner on December first. In addition to the trip, the winner will be given a test drive in a pre-production Volt.
Naturally, aspiring color-namers can enter at a Volt-specific web site, beginning today. Then you can vote for the finalists from November 16 through December 1.
Or, you could just enter your ideas into the comments section below and win the gratitude of Inside Line.
Here are are three ideas: Clear-Coated Dolphin-hide Pearlmist, Shipping-Crate Mystic Metallic Flake, and Silver Exterior With An Emerald Hue. Think you can do better?
