The 4th quarter of the 2012 Super Bowl was uncomfortably close and those people not throwing chowder all over the room were likely looking up the Cadillac ATS.
We've covered the first three quarters, here's how tonight's Super Bowl commercials impacted activity to Edmunds.com in the 4th.
Cadillac went with a very simple ad for the Super Bow and it paid off. They aired "Green Hell" an ad that, contrary to a number of Super Bowl spots, just talked about the car. Not only did Cadillac just talk about the car, but they showed development mules and engineers! The gamble worked and Edmunds saw an activity increase to the ATS of 856%.
Honda's Ferris Buller ad fell a little flat driving only a 160% increase. The Genesis Coupe drew a 676% increase and Kia's massively over-the-top Optima ad even (without 5 hours of Adriana Lima) drove an increase of 432%.
Interest in Fiat's 500 Abarth ad continued and they had an 856% increase through this quarter. Sonic managed 239%, the Lexus GS pulled in 39-% and the Beetle carried 269%.
Suzuki ran ads in 21 regions and saw a 94% and 77% increase in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

The Broderick ad earned universal thumbs down from the party we attended. The ad seemed to indicate Ferris grew up and lost. He wasn't driving a Ferrari, but a lowly suburban 4 cylinder, something Cameron would have purchased.
Not sure who greenlit that ad but the CR-V is the wrong vehicle for an 80's icon to end up driving.

The CR-V didn't fit how the character lived. He lived in a high end apartment/condo with a valet service. Yet he drove a lowly CR-V? Should have been the NSX.

I thought most of the car ads were pretty lame. Poor attempts at humor. ATS was the best. Missed some of them though. The GS ad was completely forgettable.

I didn't think most of the ads in general were all that great this year. At the party I was at we all thought the Doritos ad with the dog was the best one by far. While I'm on my soapbox I was especially disappointed with Budwiser. I remember their commercial a few years ago where the horses played football and a field goal was under review by zebras; that was CLASSIC!!

The Matthew Broderick ad had millions of views on-line before the game so I am not surprised that it din't produce a big in-game jump. Plus the CR-V is well known and a top seller in its class. So again, there is no reason to expect a big jump for a product that already sells very very well.

I liked the ATS and NSX ads the best. I do like Clint Eastwood, but I'm not sure his commercial will be effective for Chrysler.

Clint's video is just a Public Service Announcemnt, aimed to raise our spirits. I like the fact that anything Clint does, he does well. And with supreme dignity.

ATS, NSX, and the VW Turbo Beetle ads were interesting.
