How Long Does it Take to Parallel Park a Smart?

Smart car parking fail.jpg
If you're this new driver, approximately 4:44. In her defense, the spot is ENORMOUS, it must be difficult deciding exactly where, and at what angle, to park that tiny car.

Granted, it's been a loooong time since high school driver's ed, but one of the requirements to pass was showing some proficiency with parallel parking. And in a vehicle larger than a Smart. Is this no longer the case? I always joked that licenses were dispensed via bubblegum machines in this country... perhaps there's truth to that.

If you're a woman, I mean a cell-phone bot, I mean a new driver......

That's beyond pathetic. Someone get the license plate number off these images and have this person's license revoked. Please. Do it for the children - they aren't safe with this person around.

Perfect example that anyone can get a DL in America. Good thing there are no production flying cars - it would be a catastrophe. Instead of building wider roads, our government should invest into education and requirements for DL to solve the traffic problems.

aye carumba I only watched because you said this went on for nearly 5 minutes and didn't believe it. can you imagine if they had to park with a trailer in tow? When they had the car perpendicular to the curb they should have left it. please explain this by saying alcohol was involved

I'm going to have to step up and defend my little part of the world. Around these parts (of the US), the written and driving tests are real. Not real tough, but real. A significant number of people fail one or the other the first time around. Retake the test enough and you will pass. That might be what happened in the video above. No matter how you test, some fools will get through.

In some parts of the world, there are no tests at all.

Agreed that licensing in this country is a joke.

Wasn't one of the benefits of the Smart's super short length supposed to be that you could park it head on motorcycle style, and it wouldn't stick out too far, thus eliminating the need to actually parallel park?

i had a smart rental car last summer. it must be the easier thing to park this side of a bicycle

Wow, that's the second most painful parking job I've even seen. Geez.

I thought getting a license was supposed to be harder now... LOL. I see accidents and stuff in my neck of the woods all the time because the actual in-car test is not required in Texas if you supposedly did driver's ed with you parents. They just sign a piece of paper saying you have driven.
