Yesterday NASCAR made history by postponing, for the first time ever, the Daytona 500. Rain in Daytona Beach, Florida first had track officials delay the start of the race, but the rain persisted and they were forced to call it a night.
Initially the race was intended to start at noon today but, again, rain was an issue. "We're targeting 7 o'clock because we feel like it's realistic. If it takes a little bit longer to get ready to go, I think everybody is willing to do that to accomplish the conclusion of the Daytona 500 within a reasonable amount of time. So 7 o'clock is not a drop-dead, critical moment. It's just the time that we felt like it gave us our best shot right now. But we could go a little bit later if it's necessary," said NASCAR president Mike Helton.
NASCAR says the 2.5-mile track takes two-to-three hours to dry enough for racing and weather reports are claiming the rain will stop by 3. In case that's wrong, track officials say that Tuesday is an option. We say rain tires should be an option. That's a race we'd watch.

If Brian Barnhart worked for NASCAR they'd start the race in the rain. Once it started raining harder than before. Without going to rain tires.
