Around this time last year, Bentley claimed the ice speed record with a Continental Supersports. 205.48 mph on ice is a pretty tough act to follow, for sure, as demonstrated by the latest Bentley winter frolic.
This year, the crew from Crewe decided to have some fun in the Swiss Alps with the Bentley Continental lineup. First up, ski joring with Franco Moro. Wait, ski what with who? I had to look this up. Ski joring is an Alpine sport that involves being pulled around on skis by a horse (or dogs, or your servants). Moro is a 16-time world champion. Personally, I'd rather watch winter sports that have some sort of danger involved, like super-giant slalom, the skeleton, speed skating or even snowboard halfpipe. Call me old-fashioned, but ski joring looks boring.
I was more interested in the cool-looking skis. As it turns out, those are made for Bentley by Zai skis out of carbon fiber, chromium steel, cedar and thermoplastic composites. Now we're talking. As you'd expect these planks don't come cheap; try around $10,000 for a pair. The Bentley ski poles are also quite tasty, with stitched leather grips and an embroidered Bentley "B."
Next, Bentley rehashed an old Top Gear challenge that involves a race between skiers and a car. The thrills are, well, not there, despite the Batman-like soundtrack. My suggestion for next year: let's see a Bentley try to drive down the bobsled track. That ought to be exciting, no?
