2014 Cadillac ATS-V Rendered

2014 Cadillac ATS-V (2).JPG

The 2013 Cadillac ATS hasn't even been released in basic form, yet we're all frothing at the mouth over the sporty ATS-V model.

Based on what we know about the 2013 ATS and what we know about the basic Cadillac V formula, this is likely a very close approximation of what we'll see from Caddy's in-house tuner shortly after the official release of the ATS.

A wire-mesh grille replaces the slatted one in the normal sedan while more aggressive foglights fill the gaps to both sides. If I were a betting man, I'd expect an even more angular front fascia that we have rendered here. Out back we expect bigger exhaust and a more prominent wing. Here a C63-looking diffuser we wouldn't kick out of our garage. As you'd expect from a car that will have (likely) more than 450 horsepower, running gear will be bigger than the normal car's 255/40R18 meats.

And speaking of power, Cadillac hasn't said what will power the yet-to-be-announced ATS-V, but a little birdie at the Detroit Auto Show told us that, thanks to the Alpha platform -- shared with next-gen CTS and next-gen Camaro -- the LS family of V8 motors fits quite nicely. That means stock power could be anywhere from 430 to 638 to, well, whatever Linginfelter/Hennessey/SLP etc want.

V8 in the ATS-V catches my eye. Wow.

If this comes in a coupe, I'm very interested. If it comes in a coupe, manual tranny, and AWD, I'll put down $ now.

LS motors fit quite nicely in everything :P

LS3 would be a great competitor to the M3 and C63 while leaving breathing space for the LSA-powered CTS-V. Otherwise I'd expect some sort of twin-turbo DI V6...

I think they should drop in the 5.5 slated for the upcoming corvette. Simple and NA, should get fairly good mileage and a (crossing all my fingers and toes) 0-60 in the high 4's low 5's

i really hope they stick with NA V8 for this car. Give it next gen vette engine. leave the turbo 6s to BMW.

I really like this. The color is great too. I'm ready for some new wheels (I know it's just a rendering, but I'm just sayin'). NA V8 please.

The pushrod V8 is about as American as you can get. My vote is for the new 5.5L V8. 430-450hp. A BMW type chassis with a pushrod V8. Wahoo

Still not clicking with the styling of this car. Looks like a Chevy turned into a Cadillac, much like a Mitsubishi (don't remember which one) was turned into the Volvo S40 last decade. Maybe the whole Art & Science thing is getting a bit long in the tooth.

Anyone else notice the Acura-esque beak-thing on the trunk?

The mesh grille is getting tired to me. I would love to see something like Carbon Fiber used instead. I think it would convey performance and give the vehicle a more premium appearance

hondacura4 says:

I'd say a V8 with around 450ish hp will be the plan.

Seeing all the comments about the NA/DI next generation 'Vette powerplant makes me happy. I'm really hoping that these predictions come to light. Would be a world-class competitor against Europe's finest. As far as this rendering is concerned, it's not aggresive enough for me. The front only needs a touch more of it, but the rear is truly lacking here. Fingers crossed on a meaner, badder baby Caddy on the way. It's all about that LS family!

half_ton says:

This rendering is probably prety close to what the finished product will look like. It's agressive in a similar way the CTS V is which I think is a good thing.

GM is meeting the Germans head on and really holding their ground but to to those who want a NA-powered engine I would doubt it; CAFE will require forced induction more than likely.

Drop the upcoming 5.5 liter DIaluminum V8 in this bad boy. Better MPG than the M3 and C63 AMG and should yield far better numbers than the IS F.

jtnct says:

Caddy, just remember that the new M3 is right around the corner... And on the Dynoed 328i, their Horsepower and Torque figures are 240, 258, respectably AT THE WHEELS! So, with that being said, I would expect the new M3 to have about 450 WHEEL Horsepower. So I would bring up the CTS-V's power-train up to the Camero ZL-1's 580hp and make the new ATS-V a good 480hp. Just talking out loud! I am rooting for American Cars to get their S@#t together and become respected world-wide!

rl5 says:

part of the allure of the V series is the sound of the V8. cant get that with some force fed V6. Leave that for lesser Cadillacs like the regular CTS.

jtnct:

If this car weighs less than 3700lbs (which it should) I dont think it needs more than 450hp or so. The first CTS-V had 400lb and a 3800lb curb weight.

Yes, a V8, AWD version with a skidpad score > .95 would work for me...

I dig the fornt end design. The headlights look awesome. Motown is doing work!!!

rl5 says:

08:00 AM, 02/17/12

i doubt the exhausts would be relocated from their more centered locale on the regular ats

stingray454 says:

The Gen V small block from the C7 Corvette, probably 5.5L and 450hp, is a very safe bet for the ATS-V.

Not likely to see the LS3 from the C6. Once the Gen V comes out in 2013, it will replace the Gen IV engines within 2 years. GM doesn't keep older V-8 engine designs overlapping with new ones for long, and it wouldn't make sense to from a production efficiency standpoint.

greenpony says:

The regular ATS looks better than this rendering.

ilovecars12 says:

I am with yellowmiata on this one. An ATS coupe with a V8, MT, CUE, and AWD would be my dream car. I hope the rumors about killing the coupe are false, and I think there is almost no chance AWD will make it to the V version, esp if it's paired to a 450 hp V8.

rl5 says:

10:59 AM, 02/17/12

i dont see AWD being offered on this or any V models. M and AMG dont do it (except for SUVs) so I dont think cadillac will.

calspecial68 says:

11:55 AM, 02/17/12

I highly doubt this occuring, but is there any chance we'll see the trickle down effect here, using this awesome chassis in lesser automobiles. I know the next-gen Camaro is supposed to end up on this platform, but what about an actual Chevy or Buick sedan being drawn from this car. Perhaps, a new Regal and/or new Malibu...? I know the latest 'Bu just started production and the Regal is still pretty fresh, so maybe next gen? And I DO NOT mean badge engineering either, merely utilizing this destined-to-be-awesome frame with completely new sheetmetal/interior for the other brands to make them more interesting or enthusiastic in terms of performance. More RWD sedans, less FWD please.

compressor says:

12:08 PM, 02/17/12

Sounds good as long as they don't meet performance for a cheaper price, only to find out that cheaper price is due to a cheaper interior (ala CTS-v). From pics of the regular ATS, this shouldn't be an issue, although it is distinctly "American" as opposed to a more subdue euro interior. Thankfully this has more to do with preference than quality.

csubowtie says:

02:39 PM, 02/17/12

Looks good, and if it comes with a V8 I know where my GM card earnings are going. Especially if they keep the new blue from the CTS-V available.

smallfield says:

05:15 PM, 02/17/12

Man a 450-500hp ATS V would be pretty competitive with the M3 if it is truly lighter and gets the magnetic suspension calibrated nicely.

BMW 1M coupe destroyer!! This would be madness! Insert 300 movie line here ____________.

This car is another representation on how generic the Cadillac brand is in a couple of years this car will be obsolete. What's The Gas Milage rating??? I am surprised they don't have an Escalade- V. How many different platforms can they stick the same motor in?? I don't know about you guys but i have a heavy foot in normal daily driving. I will b investing my money in the future more then likely with cars that that have hybrid set up like the new generation of sport cars like the Acura Nsx, Bmw I8, i hear of nissan gtr plug in/ hybrid.

ilovecars12 says:

08:15 AM, 02/18/12

Hey Joe,
I am sorry, were you under the impression that you can buy a NSX, I8, or GTR plug in? You can't. Total speculation. Might as well talk about the cadillac ELR, which would actually compete in this class unlike anything you mentioned. And although GM does not have a hi-po suv, they do have an Escalade hybrid. Did you know that? One of the companies you listed as being so progressive (BMW ) does offer a hi-po SUV. It's the X5 M, and it gets 12/17 mpg. Also, the ATS pictured here bases at about $32,000. Care to speculate on the base price on any of the three vehicles you mentioned? Technology is expensive, and you apples to mangos comparison is not well thought out.

ilovecars12 says:

08:34 AM, 02/18/12

"How many different platforms can they stick the same motor in??"

Lol. So funny when a non-car car guy wanders on this site. It's consider good business sense to share powertrains, and just look at a couple examples from companies you mentioned:

BMW N54 3.0T
BMW 1 series, 3 series (coupe, sedan, conv), X3, X5, X6, 5 series, 6 series, 7 series and Z4. That's right. every single model in the whole lineup. Car, roadster, CUV gets the same engine offered. If that weak criticism you lobbed at Caddy really bothers you, then you must be furious with BMW!

mckman says:

As plenty of others have said. NA v8 please.

Given that the next gen M3 is going to a turbo, this gives GM a clear chance to differentiate the ATS. Cadillac should have enough confidence now to forge its own path.

The current GM pushrod v8's are great. They produce good power and fuel economy, plus they are compact and relatively lightweight.

I would also like to see some thought put towards the engine bay detailing. No lame plastic cover please.

lions208487 says:

12:03 PM, 02/18/12

@ilovercars12- Fantastic. Well stated sir.

Of course sharing powertrains makes good business sense, it's when companies dublicate the same car everything the same except the sheet metal, e.g mkz/Fusion where there is a problem.

This ATS V should be a fantastic M3 fighter, or at least kick the IS F's butt.

corduroy_gt says:

01:21 PM, 02/20/12

I agree about going with the V8 option. Better to differentiate itself from BMW and get the enthusiast dollars looking for a rev happy NA engine with great sound. They can't compete with BMW by just being another clone of BMW, since BMW will just do it better. The reason for CTS-V's success is primarily the engine, and GM does small block V8's best, not turbo sixes.

philg3 says:

06:49 AM, 02/21/12

Meh, I prefer a ATS-V wagon (with or without AWD).

jscion says:

05:52 PM, 02/21/12

I think Cadillac would do better with the V8. Cadillac makes fantastic cars but not the way BMW does....and they never will. I love just about everything Cadillac offers up to the Corvette-themed Cadillacs!?!?! Only 50+ year old guys that wear dockers with baseball hats and members only jackets want cars like that!!! To me, that is no different than an upscale version of that NASCAR outfitted Chevrolet Monte Carlo GM was pushing a few years back. I guess Corvette/Cadillac fans get a Wal-Mart themed double feature with this car but Cadillac should have its VERY OWN performance division.
