At the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, Cadillac took the wraps off of the all-new ATS sport sedan. This car, says Cadillac, is a true rival to the BMW 3-Series. On paper it's a draw and in person, well, it's a good thing the 3er stepped up this year because the ATS is CLEAN. Driving the two back-to-back is sure to be a highlight of 2012.
But we won't have an answer to that for a bit now. As for the show itself, what did it take to make that reveal happen? Here's a look behind the stage from this year's show.
Eagle-eyed Inside Line readers will be able to spot cameos by Ed Hellwig and Alistair Weaver.

I love the fact that Caddilac chose to fight the Germans head on BUT one of the reporters said the ATS felt like a BMW inside. While that may be a compliment I would take it as an insult. No, not because a BMW makes a bad car (quite the opposite) but because above all it should feel like a Caddilac.
When is this car supposed to go on sale and whats the estimated price spread?! I want to drive one.

^^ you mean it should have a front bench and a column shifter?? C'mon, if its going to compete in that field of German small sedans its got to have the same feel of flushed quality. For an automotive journalist to compare the feel of a GM interior to a BMW is a wonderful compliment

Dean, my point was that Cadillac should set out to be the benchmark in this sense. Instead of just simply matching the Germans beat them at their own game.
