In what must be an ecological scandal of unparalleled scope in Portland -- at least if Portlandia is to be trusted -- a Lamborghini Gallardo has caught fire outside of the Portland International Auto Show. (Can we just ditch the 'international' title from all of these yet?)
How? Glad you asked! Fire marshals won't allow any car into the building that has more than 1/4 tank of fuel. The Gallardo had more than that and was refused entry. So what did the private owner do? Fun run? Nope! They put a block of wood between the seat and the gas pedal and let it bounce of the rev limiter for a few minutes. Read that again and facepalm.
We know a lot of good ways to burn fuel, this is not one of them.
See more photos over at Motor Authority.

I think Mr. Issa and our (oh so capable) Congress should get on top of this quickly!!

I fully believe the validity of this report, because you just can't make this stuff up.

It's sad that the best cars are out of reach to the people who really appreciate them, and go instead to people who shouldn't be allowed to own cars in the first place.

Whouda thunk it.... Lambo and Volt, both starring in the remake of "The Ford Pinto story".

tele, re: Portlandia - there's this awesome new invention called the google. It helps prevent foot in mouth moments like this.
I feel bad for your kid. When stovt002 gets here in a few months, you can bet I'll never call his/her stuff rubbish. But I'm a decent person and I don't do that to family, and not to strangers, even with the anonymity of the internet.

Why is it that some people that have wonderful Supercars think that it's okay to just treat them worse than you would a rental Mustang?

Mike Magrath - I appreciate your blog entries. Would insurance cover this?
@teleiosgt - You are a poop head.

Tele:
You can't type the word "know" correctly.
You profess an ignorance on the subject of Portlandia then say you know what it is.
You misuse capitalization.
You weaken your rhetoric with childish profanity.
You use poorly constructed sentences to bash what you perceive to be poorly constructed sentences.
You spend a lot of time on a car blog never writing about cars, reading a writer you claim to not understand.
You throw your own kid under the bus.
But let us set all those red flags aside and look at it this way:
You're the only person confessing an ongoing inability to understand Mike. Everyone else here can read and appreciate it just fine. Using Occam's Razor, with which party does the problem really lie?

I'm surprised the Lambo doesn't have some kind of software to protect the vital parts.
I'm guessing facebook lead to the other posts on this thread.

instead of being a fan of Rousch Racing he's a fan of Douche racing.
I guess cars can only go so far in protecting themselves from damage, who knows what failed other than the part in the driver's seat

Sorry CR. I admit I went a little far in troll-bating, and he just went over the line. It got pretty wacky at the end before it all went away.
