Volkswagen's E-Bugster Concept combines electric motoring and speedster styling into a zero-emissions coupe. According to VW, its name blends "E" for electric, "Bug" the American nickname for the Beetle and "speedster," which usually describes an open-top two-seater. But the E-Bugster is a fixed-top coupe.
Powered exclusively by a 114-hp electric motor driven by a lithium-ion battery, VW says the E-Bugster can attain a 100-mile range. A plug under the VW logo on the Bugster's hood accommodates 120-volt, 240-volt and quick chargers that deliver an 80 percent charge in 30 minutes.
Inside there's an array of E-specific gauges, which we suppose means there's both a "low battery" and "time to walk" light. Actually, VW says the tachometer is replaced with an energy consumption display that fluctuates with acceleration. No doubt. Anyhow, here's what the interior looks like:
