The 2013 Dodge Dart was officially unveiled in Detroit today, and it looks to continue Chrysler's upward trend. Based on Alfa Romeo's Giulietta hatchback, this marks the first Dodge product based on a Fiat Group platform. It's scheduled to go on sale in the spring.

Definite influence from the Charger and the Chrysler 200 on that one. About time Dodge came out with a decent compact sedan. The Neon was made for one design cycle too long, and the Caliber was an embarrassment in every sense of the word.
It should do well as a match for the Focus, but it seems like there are two engines too many in that lineup. Why not offer the 2.0L engine as the base engine, and offer a turbocharged version of the 2.0L as the uprated engine? (I don't think they could offer the 1.4L turbo as a base engine - turbocharged engines haven't gained enough mass-market appeal to drive sales in a bread-and-butter car...)

The new Dart has an exciting design inside and out; I look forward to seeing one of these in person. Its too bad that they decided to only offer the car as a sedan; don't a lot of people who shop in this car segment opt for hatches? It may be a smaller market in the USA but I think its a mistake to completely walk away and not take the opportunity to even compete for those sales. This is just the kind of car that my wife goes for, but she is one of the people who exclusivly drives hatchbacks. Pity...

I think the reason that Dodge shied away from a hatch is that their market research should that most people prefer sedans in this size segment then hatches. In size this car is as large as a Suzuki Kizache.
I think it is a good looking car. Mechanically aside from 2 engines this is an Alfa Giulietta that is wider and longer. The engines are supposedly refined over the previous thrashy Chrysler 2.0. The 1.4 turbo of course is similar to the engine in the Fiat Abarth and Alfa Giulietta except with more torque. I think it's a good looking car with certainly Euro styling. If you subbed out the Dodge front and rear designs for an Alfa one it could certainly pass a replacement for the 159. It looks to certainly compete with Focus, Jetta, Elantra,Cruze,Corolla and Civic.

By the looks and sounds of things, this new Dodge Dart hits the mark (bullseye)! It's competitors are pretty good, and this seems even better. My reasons for saying so are 3 different engine options, with a manual available with all engines. You can get a fairly well-equipped base model, a sporty popular SXT with even more, a very well-equipped Limited or a performance-oriented R/T. A coming ECO model. And, hopefully, a later SRT4 high-performance model. Dodge has all the bases covered. Everybody should be able to find the Dart that suits them the best.
At the end of the year, this will be awarded Car of the Year, no doubt. It's a just right size and has great style. What more could you want - unless you are zr1man?!
