If it didn't have the word "Hybrid" emblazoned on its flanks it would just be another Jetta. But it's not. Instead, it's the most fuel-efficient Jetta in the lineup -- more so than the vaunted Jetta TDI.The Jetta Hybrid will couple VW's 150-hp 1.4-liter turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder with a 27-hp electric motor to produce a combined output of 170 hp (yes, we know, they don't add up) and 184 lb-ft of torque. Volkswagen estimates a combined fuel economy rating of 45 mpg thanks partially to the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Here are some other cool facts:
- The Jetta can achieve 44 mph on all-electric operation.
- It can drive 1.2 miles on all-electric operation.
- VW claims it's the fastest hybrid in the class with a 0-60 time of less than 9.0 seconds.
- Curb weight is claimed at less than 3,310 pounds.

This is definitely the alternate powertrain Jetta that people really want to buy, not that TDI stuff. It wouldn't surprise me if it sold nearly as well as the standard Jetta, presuming they keep the price down.

Combined 45 MPG rating?
That kinda makes it much better than their TDI, yes?

TDI is a bit faster and can run on veggie oil/bio diesel if we ever run out of crud. This 1.4 TSI most likely will need premium fuel as other turbos from Germany. I'm still not sold on "Hybrid", not with gas engine at least.

BD: TDI's get over 40mpg in real world driving and Hybrids almost never meet their EPA ratings in real world driving. The TDI is also at least $2000 cheaper, faster, and gets over 50mpg on the highway. This hybrid will require premium, so the fuel will not be cheaper than diesel, which means it will never pay for itself in fuel savings.

Modern TDIs cannot run on B100. B5 or B10 max.

Yes, and the TDI will run forever, the Hybrid no one knows, but it won't come close to the TDI
How popular is a 5 year old hybrid with 75K on the clock?
I think owners of these hybrids are going to be in for a second round of sticker shock!
Go diesel or go home!
