2012 Detroit Auto Show: 2013 Buick Encore Teaser III

 Buick Encore III.jpg

And as everybody expected, here's the third teaser of the 2013 Buick Encore on the company's Facebook page. Honestly, we were expecting them to take off the lower-rear first and save the dramatic face for the end, but we're glad they gave us the interesting bits first. And interesting is exactly the right word. The Encore ditches the smooth, sleek face of the current crop of Buicks in favor of this bulky tuner Mercedes type look.

Teaser 1, 2.

I'm on the fence here. What say you?

Not bad, I need to see it in the metal. I can't quite gauge the proportions. I know it is a a B class crossover but it looks bigger, probably by design. What is that thing in front of the headlamp?

Oh man I can't wait to see the 4th panel!

Personally, I don't really give a hoot about this car. The Juke GTR "teaser videos" were so long it became almost pointless but at least you get rewarded with some nice soundtrack at the end.

I like it. That is all.

I'm very impressed with this. Looks like it really is a baby Eclave, smaller than the Equinox but not too small....almost like a Buick take on the BMW X1...very awesome!!!

So is one of those panels pulled off every time the Indians win a ballgame? I don't know, I think I prefer Rachel Phelps to the Buick Encore.

I can't wait to see these driving on I-75 in the fast lane with the right turn signal stuck on.

Looks like a cross between the recently departed Saturn Vue, Toyata Matrix and a Mercedes B-Class. It looks stubby, pudgy, and it's probably pretty heavy.

I think it will sell really well if the price isn't too far above the Terrain. I would guess it will have the same drivetrain as the Equinox/Terrain. So, to justify the Buick, they will need to load it up with leather and gimmicks. It will, consequently, be heavy and slow.

iancar says:

It kinda scream Matrix.

Ugh. Looks like GM found a new use for the outgoing Saturn Vue slash fleet-only Chevrolet Captiva. There's a lot going on there, visually, and it's a little too sonic-y for my taste.

Thankfully, someone thought to keep the signature Buick portholes on the hood, and the extra inches of useless front overhang, so the family resemblance to the Verano is unmistakable. Another "utility" vehicle where form follows function, although function will need the optional rear vision camera to know its there.

ptcdawg says:

It's a small tall wagon. BFD.

This looks good. I'm glad to see they didn't just shrink an Enclave or put potholes on a Chevy Equinox. This looks original but still fits in with Buick's current design DNA. On the other hand, what's up with the European license plate cut out on the front of the new Verano? Why is it that European car companies can put the correct front bumper on the cars they sell in the USA, but Buick leaves the European bumper/license plate cut out on the Verano it sells in North America...this is just plain lazy IMO. Also, the Verano is supposed to be an entry level luxury sedan, so where is the electronic lumbar support? Come on GM, you need to get it right the first time if you're going to win back American consumers.

This is HIDEOUS!!! I don't get how people like this monstrosity...

That's a great looking new Equinox, speaking of which. I'll take the Chevy version.

I see you're still not giving up on that theory. And I continue to argue this is considerably smaller than the Equinox. Maybe the size of the Sonic or a bit larger. The proportions aren't right to be based on the Theta platform . . . The wheelbase is too short, the hood is sloped and far too short, it has quarter windows commonly found on B-segment cars, and the mirrors are mounted on the door instead of the pillar. That said, I think it's a good looking vehicle, though I still hate the hood vents and chrome/polished wheels.

Ick. Looks like a suzuki sx4 and a last gen saturn vue got hitched and somehow made a buick.

illoxyill says:

I like everything except the rear view mirrors; they look cheap and out of place. For being a CUV it has a "substancial" look about it that i really like.

ed124c says:

Wow, someone added "hideous" to the stying of this Buick. Where is the hideousness? I just don't understand where some people are coming from. Or, are they all just haters of a brand? I would never say an Audi is ugly or hideous, because they are certainly some of the better looking cars out there. I, and other people I know, have had nothing but trouble with Audis.

juan_mx says:

I also insisted it looked like a variant of the Vue/Antara/Captiva Sport, but in a previous teaser a commenter (bonzjr) pointed out it is the same vehicle as the new Opel Mokka,

it is the same Chevy compact SUV seen testing in Death Valley.

It seems this crossover is 170" long (really a Baby Enclave), that is about the same size as an Outlander Sport or a PT Cruiser.

smokey100 says:

If you take away the grill, wheels and headlights, and look at the over all shape it looks so much like other crossovers, the Tucson comes to mind or a cheapened version of the RX350.

justinlink says:

10:04 AM, 01/ 4/12

In case anyone was wondering, car and driver has confirmed (or conjectured) that the encore will ride on the sonic platform.

http://blog.caranddriver.com/2013-buick-encore-crossover-mostly-unveiled-ahead-of-full-reveal-in-detroit/

explains the resemblance.

zoomzoom22 says:

11:08 AM, 01/ 4/12

It isn't hideous, but it does look heavy and slow. Also, those mirrors are terrible and there is too much Nissan Murano going on in the rear.

Overall I'd give it a "meh"

compressor says:

Why are all of GM's vehicles now so tall that they all look pudgy. Its like the design computers at GM output "widescreen" aspect ratios but the IT department only supplied standard 4:3 monitors.

colorado1974 says:

03:57 PM, 01/ 4/12

wow. nice PT Cruiser.

lzks says:

06:09 AM, 01/ 5/12

I don't get it; I don't see anything to be teased about...

lzks says:

06:10 AM, 01/ 5/12

@compressor LOL good one, you're absolutely right.

rboyett says:

06:38 AM, 01/ 5/12

It's a good looking vehicle but way too small for my needs. I was hoping this would be on the same platform as the Equinox. I guess I'll look forward to the Enclave refresh instead.

jm1212 says:

10:51 AM, 01/ 5/12

if it really is based on that Opel, it is going to be way too small...I wouldnt be surprised if a Buick version of the Equinox follows, with a standard 2.0T and a better-finished interior.

damaje says:

06:33 PM, 01/ 7/12

Not much of a teaser, that little bit of a bottom corner being the only thing yet to be revealed for the exterior is not much to leave me wanting the next exterior photo. Might as well just show the full interior shots now.
