Maybach Inceases Prices For 2012

maybach_57_f34_ns_112811_1600.jpg

Perhaps Maybach is confused about why the brand is going under in 2013. If the brand was being axed due to intentional volume limitations then the announcement that they are increasing prices for 2012 would make a tiny bit of sense.

Unfortunately for Maybach, the only thing limiting Maybach production is the number of people that actually want a dudded-up Mercedes.

For 2012 the Maybach 57 now starts at $379,050 instead of $375,250. The 57 S is now $418,950, the 62 is $430,450 and the 62 S is $470,350. All price reflect a $4,200 increase excluding the $2,750 destination fee.

I'm willing to bet if you walk into a Maybach dealer in 2012 (you've got a local one, right?) and offer them 2011 prices in cash, they'll take it.

Perhaps they don't really want to build any more.

Jerks.

I was all set to get a 57S for my West coast home as well as a 62S for my East cost home.

The price increases just tick me off. I won't be getting either one now!

Now they will sell only 3 of them instead of 4. Another testament to how much of a moron Z D is at MB. They think they can sell a badge engineered S class and the rich slobs of the world will buy them. Nobody is fooled.

Tough call. A lot of overpriced status symbols sell because of the high price. Raising the price might make them more desirable to those who would buy one.

This now makes a Rolls Royce a better value....

The Maybach and the Smart are two unequivocal automotive disasters in terms development costs, competitive deliverables, automotive reviews and sales volume.

From one end of the automotive spectrum to another, two black eyes for Mercedes Benz.

But let's not forget their biggest failure: The 28 billion dollars they lost when they threw a Teutonic tantrum after the ballyhooed 'merger as equals' with Chrysler. Daimler A.G. bared their fangs by arrogantly running off Chrysler's best talent while denying their new subsidiary engineering know-how and parts. When they did share, the technology they shared was already a generation old. Even the most hallowed automobile marquee in the world isn't immune from having boneheads populating their board of directors.

Funny how much better Fiat is doing with the brand - anyone else notice how quickly Chrysler is bringing improved product to the market since Fiat's acquisition?

I can't speak for the Maybach but they sold a lot of Smarts since 1998 when it first hit the market. When it arrived in Canada in 2004 it sold very well and continued to do so to 2007 (most of the time having waiting lists). You still them everywhere.

The 2008 American version lost it's appeal when they took away the diesel engine. Mileage went from the 3 to 4 L/100km range to the 6 to 7 L/100km range (on expensive premium) and the car lost it's main purpose. Without the amazing mpgs it never caught on in the states and sales dried up here too.

I always thought it was a shame. I like the idea of a clever minimal city and it would have been so easy to fix. Bring back the diesel (and give it a good manual trans) and it would still have a loyal following.

The biggest thing Daimler made off with was Chryslers CASH. It was a corporate shake down of the worst sort. They simply stole all of the money....fired the best engineers (a lot of them left over from AMC) and starved the company of any development money. I remember at the time people claimed the MB could show Mopar how to make better quality cars...ROFLMAO..MBs of the time were some of the worst cars reliability wise on the market. It was simply a crime.

It looks even more like a cheap Chinese knockoff of a Benz now with the addition of those LED strips. Hideous.
