Last week, Reid Biglund, chief of the Dodge brand, told the Detroit News' Alisa Priddle that "Hornet will not be the name" of the upcoming compact sedan and hatchback. The News reports that we'll see at least the small Dodge sedan at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show.
So we open the floor to you... what should Dodge name its new baby? Should the sedan and hatch have the same name or different ones?
To get you started, take note that Allpar, fount of all things Mopar, has reported that Chrysler has trademarked Camber, Dart and Duster with an eye toward its new entry. The name Aria is possibly being set aside for a future B-segment entry. So one of these, or something else?

Call it the "Dodge Eponymous" and laugh while the internetz burns with overzealous rage, indignation, ignorance and outright stupidity.
I personally like the "Hornet" moniker. "Camber", not so much. Unless there's a Chrysler "Caster" sibling, that is.

I think Hornet would be a fine name, but (and this occurred to me before I got to the bottom of the post)Dart and Duster are due to come back. I like Dart, but don't forget the Swinger trim.

The hatch back should be the Gremlin.
The sedan should be the Rambler American (if final assembly is domestic).
Both names are from the AMC assets Chrysler inherited.
The Gremlin was one of the first popular small hatch backs in the U.S. market and was a bit ahead of its time. Plus, the name is a bit odd and will be easy to market.

The Rambler American was also a popular compact car that saved AMC for a time, and again was a bit ahead of its time given that the Big 3 didn't downsize their cars for at least another decade.

Sapporo, LOL, I had forgotten about that one. Not one of Chrysler's finest moments. The Dodge version was called the Challenger. Yep, a Mitsubishi built car (from Japan) powered by a 2.6L four carrying that storied Challenger name. I actually really liked the look even if it did spit all over the legacy of the V8 American built Challenger.
My mom drove a Dodge Colt wagon that was really a Mitsu with the Sapporo/Challenger drivetrain, the 2.6L four and a 5-speed. It was the car I learned to drive stick on in 1981, a RWD manual transmission equipped wagon. Maybe that's why I have always had an affinity for small wagons.

MPG will be advertised as so good that it'll be named the Dodge Drafter. Of course after folks start buying it and find the mpg isn't as good as advertised it'll be known as the Draft Dodger!
Honestly don't care what they name it so long as it is a good product. Not holding my breath though.

I get sick every time I see this photo. The Alfa Giulietta is absolutely gorgeous and Dodge just ruined everything good about that design. The took a graceful, curvy design and tacked on a masculine front end that they think Americans will like. I don't like it.

@mcesarey, what are you talking about? The car is built on the alfa platform but shares no sheet metal, they are two different cars. If the European Union can get it's act together we can have the giulietta in the states, it just doesn't make financial sense to import them currently.

It's either going to be a Neon ..... or a revival of the Doge Stealth with a 2.0L direct injected turbo. It will be a car that will compete in the subcompact market (Civic Si, VW GTI, Hyundai Genesis Coupe).
