Video: Hennessey CTS-V Wagon Hits the Drag Strip

 cadillac CTSv wagon hennessey.jpg

There's nothing we don't dig about John Hennessey's personal Cadillac CTS-V "HAMMER WAGON." Just last week we had a video of the 707 horsepower wagon running 190 mph in the Texas Mile and now we've got it on the drag strip.

Thanks to some grippy drag radials, the wagon puts down the power just fine en route to a 10.69 second pass at 134. When we tested Hennessey's V700 sedan -- on street tires and without a prepped launch pad -- we ran an 11.6 @ 127.6.

At the risk of being a sh*t disturbor, did anyone from Edmunds/Inside Line address the comments/questions posed by several people here (I think church123 asked first) about promoting Hennessy given the proliferation of internet stories about him not being exactly the nicest business man on the planet?

Too bad all that power doesn't make up for how ugly it is.

I think the car looks nice myself. I like coupe better and believe it or not, the backseat of the coupe is more comfortable. I'm in the market for a CTS or other RWD car/wagon/coupe and the backseat of the sedan and especially the wagon is too upright for my tastes.

They haven't said a thing cjasis - pretended it never happened. And they're not just internet stories, there is physical proof out there of lawsuits, settlements, and documented physical threats. This guy is a wannabe e-thug, who has happened to get his ass-kicked when he tried it in the real world (search for the video). Apparently some rich dude bought up an interest in his company a few years back, which is how he managed to procure his own dragstrip and produce all these project cars after being torched by the Viper community. That's hearsay and second hand, so take it for what it's worth, but the people who relayed the story to me have my trust.

I don't really care if Hennessey is a bad businessman. You know why? Because this blog isn't about business. Its about cars, clown. And while you could argue that it isn't the prettiest thing, you must be delusional if you in any way dislike a grocery getter than could eat most anything on the road today for lunch.

@ptcdawg - I have a CTS-V sedan and I drive my co-workers to lunch every Friday. None of them have ever complained about sitting in the back seat.

I've ridden in the back of the coupe at one of the Cadillac Performance Days and it is definitely tighter back there and difficult to get in to (it doesn't have rear doors, so of course it's harder to get in).

Had the wagon been available in Fall of 2009 I would own a red Vagon.

Good luck with you decision, because from the drivers seat they all feel the same.

Church123 +1000 There are some car companies that dont get screwed with much on IL...like Chevy...VW and Audi and Hennessey it seems.

You would care if he ripped you off if you paid big money for something. Or maybe if he took parts off your car and sold them and used the money to build someone else's car. Or maybe you'd care if he made threats to you over the net, or even tried to get in your face in real life (hopefully you could kick his ass like the guy in the video did).

But hey, if you don't consider the character of the company/person who is making/selling the products you buy, you deserve everything you get.

church123, have you see anything negative about Hennessey since the Viper era incident/incidents from the early 2000s?

church123 says:

Yeah, investigate the e-thug behavior by Hennessey on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Forums. There was also an incident where Hennessey picked a fight at a car meet and apparently got his butt kicked by an older gentleman. Caught on video although it seems to have become very hard to find these days.

As I said elsewhere, second hand information (meaning I can't verify it) says that Hennessey found a big investor to buy a share of his company which might explain the financial wherewithall to finance the GM V8 equipped Lotus based supercar. It might also explain the relatively sophisticated PR operation that they've undertaken the last couple of years (sucking in media outlets like Edmunds and C&D in particular) and John Hennessey taking a relatively low profile as an individual.
