If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. It's just the way that kind of thing works. Cadillac wants the ATS to be the best and to do so, they need to take down the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. And to do that, they need to develop and benchmark the car on the same roads as the 3 and CTS, namely, the Nurburgring and the Autobahn.
