Kids playing with model cars never fail to warm the heart, and after Toyota has sucked you in, the ad folks might as well be saying, see, see, we've got a real car here, the Toyota FT-86. It's a coupe. It's rear-drive. We're choosing wheels for it. Look, it's got a Subaru flat-4 in its engine bay. So, so, be excited.
OK, we kind of are (or rather, I kind of am), but what I'd really like is a modern-day remake of this Japanese-market commercial (also after the jump) for the Toyota MR2. Yeah, it's really dated (1985!), but look, that's the little, mid-engine, rear-drive car going around real corners on a real two-lane road and it looks fun. Nevermind, we'll shoot this footage ourselves once a Scion FR-S is available for testing.

Ehhh... I dunno what agency did that promo video, but it's really awful. That collection of random generic video scenes could be applied to any car by any brand, and it shows 0 reasons why I should chose the FT-86 (or whatever its final name will be) over any other brand or why I should bother to be excited about it.

I had a first generation Celica GT (a '71 5-speed) like the toy the little boy is playing with in the photo, but mine was white. To this day it is in the top 5 of the 20+ cars I have owned in my life.

The real reason for watching this video though is that you get some pretty good glimpses of the final production car. That should not be overlooked.
Really looking forward to getting behind the wheel.

Id like to see Nissan launch a Silvia stateside to compete with the 86
