Yesterday we brought you photos of the Toyota 86 from its release in Japan. The car pleased with its pretty-much-just-like-the-concept looks and exactly-what-we-expected performance figures. Toyota has drawn some criticism for the name, though. They're ditching the alpha part of alphanumeric naming conventions and just calling it the 86 which is two worse than the Olds 88. And, of course, everyone's still all mad that they're going to market it in the U.S. as a Scion.
If it drives right and is priced right, those complaints will go away quite quickly. But until we get our hands on a U.S. spec one, we'll just have to sit back and watch. After the jump are the official, very high resolution photos of the Toyota 86. Dial up users beware.

Really?! You are such an optimist...

I love that toyota is making this, it's certainly a step in the right direction. I've already stated my opinion otherwise. More of this toyota.
Hopefully subaru can differentiate themselves from this, but it looks like the only difference visually will be the badge.

Odd comment but... am I the only one that thinks the design on the airbag on the steering wheel looks disturbingly like the SS monker from the Waffen SS of Nazi Germany on first glance?

At a real quick glance, I think it does a bit....but only after you said something.

Wow, the interior on this thing is really bad. Look at the odd hour and minute buttons, totally out of place and from a Acura Legend. This *is* 2011 right? Even though this is priced for the lower category (is $25k really that low?) Scion brand, does that mean you skimp on the details and making interesting looking cars? Maybe it's just Toyota, or maybe it's just Toyota and Honda, but when it comes to the interior of a car, an environment that you will be spending a majority of your time looking at, you would think that the hour and minute buttons should be more thought out (maybe make them round like the rest of the interior aesthetics?)...

@msechea Looks like it may be a throwback to the AE86: http://i.imgur.com/DEC4E.jpg

@msechea How are the min and hour buttons in odd place? They are right next to the clock, the most logical place.

So what? I think it is time we stop talking about Hitler, the Nazis and their stupid acts and symbols of crime. Let them disappear into oblivion. please.
By the way, I have a Swastik moniker on the hood of my car. It is a sign of Good Luck, and not a sign of Nazi.

Every Toyota & Lexus product has that clock. Till now.
2013 seems to be a different story.

I like the look of the interior better than the last 335i I drove. The materials are obviously no the same but still this looks great to me.

Then don't comment. The SS moniker is not the same thing as a swastika.
And please correct me if I'm wrong bu the "clockwise" facing swastika is a symbol for good luck or eternity in many cultures that practice Hinduism and Buddhisim. The counter-clockwise facing swastika was the moniker that was adopted by the Nazis and isn't really the same thing.
