Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV: Heroes

 Porsche rennsport 6.jpg

Our resident historian, know-it-all and Porsche historian/know-it-all Michael Jordan has already walked you through the People Behind the Porsches from Rennsport Reunion IV, and now Porsche wants to take a stab at it.

This latest video out of the Rennsport Reunion has a mix of vintage and modern clips celebrating the people and machines that are responsible for Porsche's 28,000 race wins. Watch the video after the jump and then go re-read Jordan's story.

Cool video, but heroes?
I'm pretty sure the word has become worthless these days...

The word 'hero" should not be used in any way connected to automobile racing. Very offensive. The real heroes are the ones fighting for our safety everyday...service men and women and first reponders. What a boob to equate racing with heroism.

@ BB

From OED:

"hero: a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities"

I don't disagree that our men and women in uniform and first responders are indeed heroes, but heroes are more than that. Oftentimes a hero is a person who is important to you, someone you admire or aspire to be like. They don't have to save people or fight wars. Most of my heroes have never done those things. But they're still my heroes because they have other outstanding achievements and noble qualities. Racing drivers? They have some outstanding achievements. And I'd call them courageous. Certainly heroes in my book.

As one of the "service men and women and first responders," I aspire to one day be the kind of hero who races a Porsche. (preferably not the GTS) Racing of the Porsche is indeed lofty and noble.
