Next Generation Nissan Titan Delayed Until 2014 Model Year

2010_nissan_titan_b.jpg

According to a report in Automotive News, the next-generation of the Nissan Titan has been delayed until 2013. After the earthquake in Japan, Nissan was forced to reallocate its engineering resources in an effort to get its existing plants back up to speed.

Nissan officials didn't give a firm commitment on the timing of the Titan, only saying that it would be out for the 2014 model year. Expect to see a more well rounded truck that includes multiple drivetrains this time around as the current truck has been stifled by its lack of model combinations compared to its domestic competitors.

Long time for Nissan dealers to wait for a new design. Huge discounts and still difficult to sell the current Titan. It is a decent truck and a good first effort, it's just too dated a design compared to Dodge, Ford and GM.
If there is one area that domestics excel in, it is pickup trucks.

Frontier is overdue for a redesign too.

Mopar--

You hinted at it. Not only do they have to wait for the Titan redesign, but there are a lot of Nissan products derived from the Titan platform that has to wait as well.

The big list: Titan, Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder, Armada, Infiniti QX

Domestics have huge discounts now too. GM for example has "$8,250 - $9,250 Cash Credit" on it's full size pick ups.

Tough time to sell anything.

"Tough time to sell anything."

Nissan is fighting an uphill battle. Outdated and inefficient powertrain, limited configurations, heavily entrenched domestic competition, and a market that puts a higher value on fuel efficiency. If a year's delay helps Nissan deliver something truly competitive, good for them.

"and a market that puts a higher value on fuel efficiency."

Not sure about that one. Nobody who cares at all about fuel economy would buy a full size pickup truck.
