Configurate It: 2012 Buick Verano

 verano configurator.jpg

You've already read our full test of the 2012 Buick Verano, now you can build your own!

The 2012 Verano stars at $23,470 and runs $29,885 with all of the boxes ticked -- including 18 inch wheels, audio system with nav, power sunroof and a dealer-installed spoiler. That's only about $3,000 more than our fully loaded long-term Chevy Cruze. Is a better car worth $3K to you?

I don't see a "delete 300 pounds" option. That's a feature most GM cars should be offering these days.

Until then, no thanks.

Mike, what causes you to think the Verano is a better car than the Cruze? Perhaps a comparo would be in order?

Personally, since the Verano doesn't come with a stick, my feeling is that the Cruze is a much better car. Also, the Verano gets poorer gas mileage, and the Cruze is about as fast (0-60) as the V. I would also bet that the Cruze's trunk is bigger. (Important to me if it is going to be a Summer road car.)

The clincher is the six speed manual, of course. Even a Focus doesn't offer that. (Which is strange, considering that Ford offers a six speed manual on the base S Fusion, a car that, in the minds of the bean counters, should not even have a stick. It is absent from the 2012 Camry, and the Accord will probably fall into lockstep with Toyota when the new one emerges.)

+1 ed124c

Can't figure how they will sell this car with the mileage it's getting. Why no E-Assist? The "lower line" Cruze has a high-tech engine (1.4t) while the Verano does with the big 2.4? In an ideal world, the diesel Cruze we'll be getting in 2013 will be available with the stick and the 5-door body.

Mine configured out to $30,215.

Not exactly a bargain.

"Not exactly a bargain."

Any car can be configured to not be a bargain.
