2011 LA Auto Show: Ford Fiesta ST Concept

 Ford Fiesta ST LA 1

Want a better-than-stock Ford hatchback but feel that the 250-horsepower Ford Focus ST is simply too much car? Good news! This Ford Fiesta ST is for you. Trouble is, it's just a concept.

The Fiesta ST uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged (shocker from Ford these days) EcoBoost (again, shock) that makes 180 hp and powers the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Despite being a concept, that sounds pretty doable.

The body kit is tame, the sideview mirrors are production-ready and the car is a reasonable height. Also reasonable are the 17-inch wheels with 205/40R17 ContiSportContact 3 sport rubber. The drilled brakes with fixed front calipers will never see the light of day.

It's still a concept, but one that is a lot closer to production than many of the other ones we've seen. If Ford gets enough response on this, there's no reason we won't see a Fiesta ST in 2013.

Don't tease with drilled discs and fixed calipers. You know you won't build that, Ford.

2013!? Why is every manufacturer taking their sweet time with the performance versions of their cars? They need the ST last week, Fiesta sales aren't doing so hot.

Do it. Especially if they can make it happen right under 20K. People would jump all over this. Make the price >20K even if they have to sell a decontented version with sport cloth seats no body kit and sixteen inch alloys. I would love to see this. A fiat 500 Abarth fighter...

I want it. Smaller size and (undoubtedly) better fuel economy than the new Focus ST. I'd rather have this. If not, an Abarth 500 is in my future...

Looks great, and virtually production-ready to boot. Ford continues to out-Honda Honda.

I want to see a comparison of the Fiesta ST vs Veloster Turbo ASAP. Include 0-60, 60-0, quarter-mile and a lap time around Willow Springs.

I'll take one in Ford Racing blue, please. Like me, my WRX is starting to show its age. And it likes its drink!

That baby, along with the Focus ST, could generate much more interest for Ford. As the Focus ST could end up just a bit more than some would want to pay, this could be the altenative so that they don't lose a sale to another brand. That, and people like having choices. Both of those hot Fords look pretty nice.

If Ford doesnt build this they are Stupid. Chances of it not going through are slim since WRC is using the 1.6 Turbo and the Fiesta is already using the Fiesta in Rally Events. Its just a question of will the ST come to the US with the same Euro performance.

Honda needs to stop BSing and build a high performance 1.6 KA motor and drop it in the Fit. Give that 160HP, all the needed suspension parts, focus on driver feel, and badge it as a Fit SI. I can dream cant I?
