2011 L.A. Auto Show: 2013 Honda Fit EV

fit-ev-lead.jpg

What better reason for creating blue skies, eh? Not sure that the 2013 Honda Fit EV is really going to clear things up here in Los Angeles, but it can't hurt.

Announced to the world for the first time today, the pure electric hatchback will offer up to 76 miles of range when it goes on sale in the summer of 2012. Might not sound like much, but Honda says the charging time is only three hours on a 240-watt charger.

Power for the Fit EV comes from a 92-kilowatt motor that runs off a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery. A three-mode driving system similar to the one used in the CR-Z will allow for varying levels of performance and range.

Honda will start off by offering the Fit EV as a three-year lease for $399 per month.

It's really a shame they're doing an expensive (and most likely limited) leasing program instead of widespread sale like the Leaf.

A lease could work out to be a good deal if batteries improve a lot over the next 3 years. The value of these would fall fast if they came out with a newer model for less money with twice the range.

maxwellhere - I agree about the leasing program being bad. There's no way to take advantage of federal/state rebate incentives.

I guess it's lease only just like the EV1 was, so expect Honda to recall all of these in three years. This is Honda's consumer test EV.
