Video: Vodafone McLaren F1 Car Laps Bathurst

 bathurst F1.jpg

We've been a little hooked on the Bathurst circuit lately. First we had V8 Supercars at the Bathurst 1000 which gave us the video of  Darrell Waltrip going full Ricky Bobby. A reader saw that, did some YouTubing and sent these videos over with the text, "Jenson Button in a McLaren F1 car around Bathurst."

That's all I needed. Upon watching, the only thing I can really add is a quote by Takahashi, "Terrifying."

 The first video is off the front of the car and really shows what type of geological oddity this place is. The second video is from a helicopter which, from the video description, had a hard time keeping pace.

Holy cow! He barely even had to move outside at the end of Conrod (still the best name of a straight ever) to take the Chase. I'm a McLaren fan and Button is definitely pulling ahead of Hammy in my book this season. Hope Hamilton is able to shake off the problems and keep a good relationship with McLaren going into next year. It just wouldn't be the same without him.

It is a shame Bathurst didn't make it into Forza 4. Seems made for the game and they have V8 supercars to drive.

Reminds me a little of Laguna Seca, or to a lesser extent Sears Point here in the US. There's a track on the East Coast (Virginia?) that has a similar feel too.

But that back section is ridiculously fast. The only thing that reminds me of is the long straights at the Nurburgring :)

@stovt,
Meh. Hamilton all the way.
Hamilton reminds me of the late Richard Burns--"When in doubt, go all out". Button drives with his brains, while Hammy only goes around with one mode--all out. Button is the one who'd probably bring home more points, but for sheer excitement Hamilton is the one to watch. Put Hamilton and Button in a flying lap and you know who will likely come out on top.
His battle with Webber, in a vastly superior car, is simply sensational. Webber, with all the passing aid in the world, just cannot get around Hamilton. Useless Massa, take note--you can have a hard, fair battle with someone and not end up in a crash. Massa ending up in the barriers of Monaco is a joy to watch.
Vettel may be a double world champ, but Hamilton and Alonso are the drivers' drivers.

Ah, but Canadian Grand Prix this year, Button pitted what, twice as many times as everyone else (to be fair, some of that due to a collision with Hamilton), and went from dead last to win in a rain shortened race? You can't deny that was awesome.

@stovt,
That was a good drive by Button. I like Button (see below), but for sheer driving excitement Hamilton is still the one to watch.
Any race a Ferrari is kept out of the podium is a good race.
ps: I named my twin boys Jensen (the more common spelling form) and Sebastian. I wanted Jensen and Lewis, but wifey didn't like the name Lewis. I'm not a big fan of Vettel but she likes how it sounds. At least I did manage to slip in Nigel (Mansell--one of my all-time favorite) as a middle name.
