SEMA 2011: Chevy to Show Special Vettes, Camaros

11Corvette-CarlisleBlu82.jp.jpg

The Camaro was named "Hottest Car" in the inaugural SEMA awards. Kelly Harland was named "Hottest Babe," but that wasn't officially sanctioned nor does it have anything to do with this.

Since the Camaro seems to be so popular at SEMA, Chevy released pictures of some of the special editions and concepts that will be shown at this year's show. It won't be just Camaros, either, as there will be upwards of 20 Chevy Sonics and multiple Corvettes as the above Carlisle Blue Grand Sport will attest.

Follow the jump for more preview pics and drawings from Chevy's 2011 SEMA collection.

I don't know about you, but this Carlisle Blue paint looks awesome on the Vette and I love the Pearl White full-length stripes. The name commemorates 30 years of the "Corvettes at Carlisle" event. Besides the paint and the standard GS bits and pieces, this one gets carbon fiber ground effects, a full-width spoiler, and the new-for-2012 Cyber Grey headlamps.

The Camaro 1LE Concept honors the track-focussed 1LE package available on the third-generation Camaro. Only 111 of those were built for 1989, one of which is presently housed in the car museum at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas. The new Concept is based on the SS and had "competition ready modifications, including lightweight 20-inch black wheels, six-piston brakes, shock tower brace, and active exhaust system." It also has a black hood, black wheels, black mirrors and a black spoiler.

The Camaro Red Zone Concept convertible "showcases a carefully selected collection of accessories, including a new, heritage-inspired stripe graphic, 21-inch wheels and a new Crystal Claret exterior color." Snazzy.

The Camaro ZL1 Carbon Concept: "Welcome to the dark side of Camaro ZL1." This includes a carbon fiber "Mohawk" hood insert, carbon fiber rear spoiler with stainless steel wicker bill (DeLorean meets Golden Girl?),  carbon fiber interior appliques, 20-inch wheels, Brembo brakes, Magnetic Ride Control, active exhaust and diffuser, sueded upholstery, ZL1 short-throw shifter, suede-trimmed flat-bottomed steering wheel."

The Corvette Z06 Ron Fellow 'Hall of Fame' Tribute "pays homage to the Canadian racer's induction into the National Corvette Museum's Hall of Fame in 2011. The Torch Red show car includes black headlamps housings, the carbon fiber front splitter (that'll be fun/cheap in parking lots) and rocker moldings, and new Carveggio seats from Chevrolet performance."

Do keep in mind the 1LE was available 88-99; only 4 were built in 88. It was also available on the Firebird. Some will argue their 01/02 SS is a 1LE, but it was a second-sticker option from SLP and not a 1LE in the true sense of its "heritage."

In additon to the late SLP cars mentioned by stress83, there were factory 1LEs available during the 4th gen years. The package was intended to serve the same purpose but was not as extreme as the 3rd gen 1LE - i.e. no brake upgrade, no fuel tank baffles. I don't remember the full specs, but one small part that many were fond of retrofitting to "normal" Z28s (and T/As and Formulas for that matter) was the 1LE intake bellows. On the LT1 F bodys, the plastic part that makes the 90 degree curve from airbox to throttle body had a long resonator that stuck a long way down. The 1LE intake bellows eliminated the resonator.

I really dig those wheels on the Corvette GS. That color would be a welcome addition as well.

It's really great to see IL cover so many great Chevy cars. Just goes to show the strong surge Chevy and other American auto makers are making. I am a big supporter of American made products and am happy to see this.
