Plurality of Pontiac Owners Trading in For a New GM

 2008_pontiac_g8_actf34_ft_4_1600.jpg

Even without a Chevy-badged replacement for the Solstice, GM is doing an excellent job at retaining former Pontiac owners.

In a recent study by Edmunds AutoObserver, a full 39.9 percent of Pontiac owners who traded in for a new vehicle this year picked up a new GM. These results are the highest GM has seen from Pontiac owners since 2007, a year when Pontiac was still in business.

In comparison, 9.4 percent of owners jumped to Ford while Toyota and Honda have each snagged 7.4 percent.

"[A] full 39.9 percent of Pontiac owners who traded in for a new vehicle this year picked up a new GM."

In other words, more than six out of ten Pontiac owners jumped ship at the first opportunity.
I like my interpretation better.

OMG I soooo fall into this category. I sold my 2009 G8 GT and bought a 2011 Chevy Cruze. LOL...and honestly I consider myself a Mopar guy.

We are an owner of another GM orphan brand, Saturn. We will be trading the Ion for a Chevy. The majority of the cars that we have owned and driven have been Chevys. I drove two Ford Mustangs, 66 and 74. We've had one Pontiac Grand Am, 1 GMC 3500 Savanah, and two Saturns (traded the 1999 for the 2004).

I would be amazed if there were anyone left out there that still believes that one car is a Chevy and another is a Pontiac. They are all just GM cars and some marketing group decides which car gets which badge.

For someone to say "I would drive a Pontiac but not a Chevy" shows they are decades out of touch.
