On Wednesday we were treated to some leaked photos of the upcoming Toyota FT-86 /Scion FR-S thanks to Toyota's in-house tuning company, Modellista. Today we have another leak, thanks to FT-86 Club, but this one is from a Japanese car magazine and shows a car without the Modellista dressings.
You'll notice this car doesn't have the goofy wheels, the embellishments on the front fascia, the chrome side stripe, the LED lights, or the massive exhaust. This one also features a real antenna instead of the sat radio one.

hmm..that 2nd pic points out a very interesting aspect of the FT86 - the fact that its profile window shape takes its cue from the Toyota 2000GT of the '60s. Very nice retro touch!

Could be a huge hit but why is it taking so long to reach the showrooms?

HA! Didn't know Insideline worked on the weekends... Personally I don't believe in Toyota as a formidable opponent in the affordable Sports Car market. The only foreigner I like is the Genesis Coupe.
And speaking of Holloween... This thing is just plain scary lookin', even without the Modellista costume!
But the Low CoG comment might indicate that Toyota knows what it's doing. But we'll see how much. BwaHaHaHaHaHa!!!!! #NoHappyHolloween

I think you mean Subaru :-)

It is hard to imagine someone complaining about the styling. But, of course, there will be some.
This looks like a much more expensive car than the rumored 22K base model. But 22K is about all I can afford for a second car. Crossing my fingers.

Scion, not a Toyota.

Check the Toyota badging on the car. It's a Toyota. Maybe not what we'll get there, but in the pictures its a Toyota.

Keep in mind this is JDM-spec, not US-spec. So there will be some differences when it arrives here.

The Altezza tail light needs to go, the rest looks good.

Read the C&D first drive article this weekend where they had very high praise for this car. While the performance coupe market is pretty crowded these days, and the bar is very high, I think this car might fill a nice niche. It will sort of appeal to a Civic Si type buyer who would want a better platform(RWD). It also gives another performance platform to the a massive quantity of die hard Subaru fans and addresses pent up demand in the Toyota base. It would be interesting to know what the target volume for this is in NA, 5K for Suby and 10-15 for Toyota/Scion ?
Anyway, I can't wait to see this and hear final specs.

@t10: Hard to believe that, after all the development that has gone into this car, the sales bar would be set so low. I am guessing they are hoping for 75-100K combined. Your numbers are probably not high enough for the cars to be sustainable.
By the way, Autoblog has one additional page of the above brochure. It is typical for Edmunds to not use all the available info.

Looks pretty good other than the silly Altezza tail lamps.

There is no Scion brand in Japan - it will be a Scion in the US.

im a young "kid" 25 and i still remember the old 2000gt, I must say the look is very Toyota-y those headlights but the front is missing the mark completely if they are going for that 2000gt look. First things I realize this isn't the 1960's and because of restrictions and what not you can't just re build the old 2000 body. But at least keep the things that made the other one different from other cars. Examples:
I believe they should have kept the pop up lights.
At least put the rear view on the front fender.
The rear of the car works... keeping the hatchback with those modern day altezzas really harks back to the old gt even if it makes it look like a mx5
