Mere days after we bought a long-term 1991 Acura NSX, Honda's RnD boss Mibe Toshihiro has confirmed that they are working on a new NSX.
Toshihiro told Autocar "We are now at a point where we can consider the next generation of electric and hybrid vehicles. President Ito has already mentioned a new NSX, and we have looked at that in the R&D department. .It would be an interesting project -- electric or hybrid vehicles can be fun as well as economical."
This goes along with earlier reports from Honda president Takanobu Ito that a next-gen NSX would not follow the same formula as the original. Our long term NSX has a mfg estimated weight of 3,010 lbs. Before getting excited, we should keep in mind that Honda claimed that the CRZ was the spiritual successor to the CRX, whether or not Honda has the ability to think the way they did in the late 80's is debatable.
Photos of Tony Stark (RDJ) driving an Acura concept in The Avengers surfaced a few weeks back, expect to see that car wearing NSX badges as early as the Tokyo Motor Show.

Ugh - Honda has fallen off the deep end. I have no issues with making a hybrid car. But the NSX was pure, simple and lightweight as was the CRX.
The CRZ was an ugly, overweight, slow car with poor handling....So the NSX replacement should be a true winner too if we're using the same formula!
What did they do, burn the blueprints to the V10 they've ALREADY built for this car?

If hybrids can be fun, why isn't the CR-Z?
Not to say that a fun hybrid is impossible, but it seems that Honda is incapable of making anything fun these days.

Why not reengineer that marvelous V10 powered test mule that was seen on the Ring a few years ago? It already has AWD so it could probably accept the electric motors for the front axle. I'm positive there's more to it than that but given that car was close to producing why throw that architecture away?
OTOH, that "concept" Tony Stark was piloting was quite attrative although it had some Audi R8 cues, which is certainly not a bad thing.

CRZ isn't bad... its like the CRX, only worse, but it is hybrid so your farts smell like roses. so, that is the future of the NSX.
