This is one of the coolest lots I've seen up for auction in a long time. Singapore based Arete Trading Pte Ltd. is selling off what looks to be a rather well-preserved -- if a bit dusty -- collection of right-hand drive 1997 Chrysler Neons.
They've all got the 2.0-liter petrol motor, an extra tire, no stereo, are made in USA and are available in "few colors visible in pictures" which we guess means teal and dust.
They're currently asking only $1,350 per car, but with a collection like this, I'd hate to see them broken up. Spending $202,500 on Neons is a wise investment, right?

Weird but cool. I always liked the 1st gen Neon (as long as they are manuals).

Sell them all to Bob Nardelli.

Acquainted with anyone that pinches pennies so hard they leave fingerprints in the copper? Their new car has arrived...
Other than the appalling crash worthiness of this car, I'd be sorely tempted to pick one up for $1350. I wonder how much reconditioning would be needed to get them back on the road.

So for the price of a small car now $13,500... I could have 10 of these! :D

I'd buy one in a heartbeat, I know of at least 4 people that are still driving these with 200k+ miles on them. Great DD.

Tires a likely flatspotted, battery would need to be recharged or replaced, fluids flushed and refilled... but even still, you'd have a "brand-new" car for around $2,000. I'd buy one right now.

This is the ultimate car for a train commuter. (LA readers wouldn't know about driving to a train station, but Magrath could remember I bet)
I actually want one now for that exact purpose....

buy a dozen, replace rubber with summer tires, then hold a racing series against each other. OR, rent-a-wrecks,OR monster truck fodder, OR......wow at that price, there's a lot of ideas.

I found some storage bins for these Neon's:

So, nobody is bothered by the right hand drive?
Where are these cars? Were they exported out of the US, or are they still in the states? Makes a big difference on shipping charges. But even if the price got up to 4 or 5 thousand, it would still be worth it-- if it didn't have that right hand wheel.

At $1350 i think most people will deal with the RHD thing. If its an automatic there's no difference, if its a manual...then a couple hours of adjustment will be necessary.
That really would never stop me from buying a car.

@ed124c
Considering the seller is in Singapore and these cars are RHD, my guess is Greenland.
All kidding aside, I can imagine these going fast. Due to space and cost of living, buying a car is incredibly expensive in Singapore; a normal family sedan could cost up to $100k USD after fees are factored in. So to get one for $1,350? Bargain.

My assumption is that they are rusting. Even with the work involved to get them roadworthy, they are a good deal.
I just sold a 2000 Dodge Neon with 63k, 4 door, Auto and A/C, needs four new tires, no body damage, for $3000.

The 1st-gen Neon was a great little autocrosser right out of the box. Aftermarket is full of go-fast goodies for these cars, and ricer kids have adopted them in huge numbers up here in freezerland.
Would make a pretty good track toy! IL, there's a long-termer here that doesn't even need plates.

I see LeMons racers! Inside Line should buy one for $250!

+1. Buy one, strip and sell the parts to offset the over-budget-ness, and we'll have the best LeMons car, ever.

I like the idea of buying a ton for a spec racing series or buying one for a LeMons racer.
@stoppre75: I live in LA and I once considered that. I was considering a job that would have been a 2+ hour drive from where I live, but I could easily take light rail to union station, and the job wouldn't have been too bad a drive from there.

As ed124c suggested, even if the price got up to the $4-5K range after shipping (back to the states) and tires, belts, hoses and fluids are replaced, I'd still go for one in a heartbeat. And I wouldn't be picky about the color or the years of accumulated dust. While I'd prefer a stick, I could deal with an automatic.
What I hadn't heard anybody else mention is whether these are all sedans or if coupes are in the mix. Would again prefer a coupe yet would be OK with a sedan. You know, if these were in the states, I'd guess they'd be put up for auction. I'd definitely be bidding on one. I still remember when these first came on the market. A friend had one for a rental car and was pretty impressed with it for a small car. Oh, and can admit that from time to time, I check out Neons on Craigslist and AutoTrader. Even right now, you can find first generation Neons well under 100K miles, and even some under 50K miles. What appeals to me the most are the first gen R/T models of 1998-99.

By the way, I'm surprised that nobody pointed out that these are CHRYSLER Neon's. They were badged as Plymouth/Dodge in the US.
But yes, you'd probably die in a crash:

They were Chryslers in Canada too.
I don't remember Neons being any worse in crashs then other small cars of the 90's. Shows how much cars have improved.
