If the rumor mill is to be trusted the Acura TSX, despite the facelift, is going the way of the Integra come 2013 and will be replaced by....The Acura RSX Sedan. RSX, while not Integra, has a name that resonates with Acura buyers in a way that TSX never really has. Specifically with enthusiasts.
This is the best view we've seen of the new smallish sedan and the design language it uses. There's a mix of current TSX with a more dynamic (and less toothsome) face and the headlights off a 2012 Camry. And does anyone else see a lot of BMW in those taillights?
Either way, we've got a year-or-so of spy photos before this one officially takes shape...and name. Will RSX solve the problem?

Dear Honda,
Enthusiasts are the portion of the market most likely to see through name games. Those that are most likely to be fooled by badge swaps are the non-enthusiasts.

Boy, the weird sheet metal just seeps right through the camouflage.
I'm smack in the middle of the RL target demographic and I have no idea who they are talking too for product development and styling ideas.
My friends continue to buy BMW's with a few defections to Audi and now Cadillac. Acura's get the same amount of mind share now as Saab.

My last car was a 2005 Acura RSX Type-S. Great little car; I always wished for a successor. This is most definitely not a successor.
I traded the RSX in on a 2010 GTI. Looks like I will be driving that for awhile.

Nope.

Whaaaaa? I think the original TSX was pretty hallowed in its own right, certainly more than anybody's Integra sedan ever was...and I don't think that the name's the problem with the current (perfectly pleasant) car...
Oh well!

I don't understand this decision at all! the TSX has always been a fairly decent seller, its fairly popular, stylish, and often lauded about. I am surprised they are changing the name back to RSX. They should have created a new model UNDER TSX and made it a sporty hatch, 2 or 4 door, and maybe have a hybrid model too?
Acura has lost its mojo in my opinion. The styling direction is bland, as is Honda's of late, Still dissapointed by Civic with its similair front end AND 2002-2006 Camry tail lights.
Honda is just plunging and its sad, because they have made AMAZING cars, I loved my old Element!

If this thing is large-ish, it could be a replacement for the lame RL.
But look for a new, dull Civic under the camo...the Canadian-only CSX is due for an overhaul now that the Civic is up a generation. The Acura version of the Civic is supposed to hit the US with the next gen (meaning 2012).
Expect a suspension setup that balances between a regular Civic and a Si, plus the old RSX engine that currently sits in the 2011 CSX, or an upgrade to the Si / TSX mill. One hopes the Camry tailights won't make the trip into Acura showrooms.

Riswick reporting live from Canada: $10 says that is the next Canadian-market Acura CSX based on the new Civic. Nothing to do with an RSX or the American market, at least that's my bet.

Does this mean it will be riding on the Civic's platofrm?
The previous RSX was a JDM Integra which was built on a modified Civic platform.

Even with the Camo it still looks like the TSX. Hasn't Honda learned from the Rabbit Golf Rabbit Golf or the Taurus 500 Taurus incidents?
Since it looks just like the TSX would it not be cheaper to keep name and white out the model year on the leftover brochures and recycle them? It would boost their green cred since their hybrids suck.

Although I probably won't like this car I dont see why so many here think this will be a direct replacement for the TSX. This car will replace the TSX in the sense of being the entry level Acura but it won't be replacing the TSX's place in terms of segment.
Let me fill you in:
- Next gen RL will become slightly larger.
- Next gen TL will become slightly smaller.
- The new "RSX" will be the entry level car but I'm guessing it will be called CSX.
- The Canadian CSX will become this car. No more Civic clone.
- The TSX will disappear as there will be only 1 Accord for global consumption and it should be smaller vs the USDM Accord.
- If you were looking for a direct RSX replacement this IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT CAR!
- If you are looking for direct RSX replacement buy a used 2011 Civic Si.
- By making these changes there will be less product overlap and more distinction in regards to size and model.
- Although this car will probaly use the Civics chassis it will be developed by Acura here in the States. This is not a rebadged Honda like the Integra and RSX were.
- In terms of drivetrain offerings I would look for an all new member of the K Series family with 2.5 liters and a hybrid model showcasing the next generation IMA system.
- I also wouldn't rule out a more performance oriented version.

i like the paint job. This is one of the more effective ones i've seen. Car companies should offer this as an option. Though i suppose it's not really paint but rather a wrap, huh ?

Honda is so lost. The TSX name was never the problem. Just as the integra and legend names weren't bad.
dillworth says:

someone else reported that TSX will drop and next gen TL will get smaller and lighter. RSX will be new entry sedan similar to Buick Verano. TSX and TL are too close in size and they dont make sense next to each other in the showroom- especially the TSX V6 parked next to a base TL.

@danyall2010: A bit of a stretch. The TSX is not ugly-- not even close. Yes, the front grille could be dialed back a bit, but otherwise it looks good. And the wagon looks even better. Acura could base their entire product line around the TSX wagon.

If they are going to bring back old names, then go all the way back and use Integra and Legend again! Those names resonate with lots of people.
greenpony says:

carguy622, wholeheartedly agree. Bringing the Integra and Legend monikers back would be a good move if they are indeed trying to court enthusiasts, but this will only work if the cars are engaging to drive. They would be foolish to introduce a luxury shitbox and call it Integra or Legend, so if this is actually what they're planning on doing, it's a good move to stick with the arbitrary alphanumerics.
dillworth says:

im sure it will be a decent car, but it definitely means Acura is ceasing its march upward in terms of price and size. This would likely be a car that starts in the mid to high 20s if its Civic based. The TSX gets unimpressive mileage for its size and weight so perhaps they feel they need a smaller entry to appeal to young buyers who want stellar mileage and luxury.
cubozoan says:

it's wearing ohio plates, so it may be safe to assume it's based on the new civic and built in the US. the proportions are pretty un-civic tho, i.e. the hood looks *normal* length instead of the stubby one on the civic. i think it looks decent, and i may be into it, but still it doesn't look like honda is getting out of its funk anytime soon.

A few facts:
- The Acura brand was conceived in the U.S. and was supposed to be only available in the North American market.
- Every Acura currently offered was developed, designed and built in the U.S with the exception of the TSX and RL.
- TSX was developed and designed in Europe and Japan.
- RL was developed, designed and built in Japan.
- Acura is trying to get it's sedan lineup in order in regards to size, price overlap and segment.
- Acura will eventually develop, design and build all of its offerings here in the U.S.
dillworth says:

when is the RL going to be dropped? Its long overdue unless they plan to make it larger and give it far more power than the TL.

This would be very sweet since I need to buy a four door in the next two years.(have kids now) It will be a sad day getting rid of my 03 RSX-S. I hope this new one delivers the goods if not more than what I have now. I don't understand why they would continue building the TSX since its the same car(engine and transmission). Maybe they bump the HP to 250, which would be nice to handle the extra weight.
The Honda Civic SI just does not do it for me and I'd feel like I'm downgrading from an Acura to a Honda Civic(no offendance for those who have one here)
Will RSX save Acura, I don't so since it never really sold well 2007. But have it being a four door might gave Acura that driver feeling back on the table.
