In our ongoing effort to cover every automotive unveil, Inside Line is at New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for the world debut of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster. Waiting a few more days for the Frankfurt auto show quite simply wasn't good enough. Here's Special Fashion Week Correspondent Sarah Carrillo (a.k.a. Riswick's wife).
As you can see above, a deluge of people flooded the press tent at Lincoln Center to catch a glimpse of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster. At the risk of being crushed, I braved the crowd and pushed my way through to check it out.
Mercedes had a few representatives on hand to answer my fellow journalists' pressing questions, like "Is there a coordinating nail polish to go with the car, as in previous years?" Sadly, no -- Imola Grey would actually be on trend. Also, "Who is the Mercedes-Benz featured designer this season?" Well, it's Derek Lam, but they're a little vague on what exactly that means, aside from his previous runway shows playing on the screen behind the car.
Shockingly, however, the press seemed less interested in the $200,000 Mercedes roadster than they were in the Fiji water cases and the Maybelline booth. But to be fair, they were giving away free stuff -- perhaps Mercedes should think about that?
The SLS will be on display throughout Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week alongside a C63 AMG Coupe, which as you can see after the jump, wasn't quite as popular.

I tried to read this item, but I kept getting distracted by what appears to be a tail hidden in that woman's shorts.

Just what you'd expect for a Chanel bag from the New York Auto Show.
Wait, it's the other way around.

The SLS roadster looks pretty good - the higher bonnet line doesn't hurt a bit.

The poor woman in that first picture is going to be devastated. I'm not sure I've ever seen a more unflattering picture of a woman's posterior.

The reason that there were no crowds for the SLS is obviously because the fashionistas haven't been told by people whose opinions they value that this is the next big thing they're supposed to go out and buy to look rich and important.
BTW, I think that woman's diaper is full.
