Bugatti Galibier: Remarkable Changes, Four-digit Power Rating Coming

In a completely not-shocking move that will surprise absolutely nobody who's seen the car in person, Bugatti head Wolfgang Durheimer has said that the Galibier, now in the second half of the design phase, will get "some remarkable changes from the original concept."

"The design will be different, especially from the B-pillar back, the ingress and regress to the rear seats will be improved, as will the legroom and ergonomics, the car will be a little longer," he said, finishing with, "and the power of the engine will be at least four figures." Oh good, I was afraid that with a little more length it would be too slow...

Modifying the Galibier concept was done after getting "half of Veyron owners" into the car. "You will still recognize the design from the concept, but now this is a design I can be 100% behind," Durheimer concluded.

Fingers crossed they still keep that spine down the middle.

When GM admitted the design of the Volt concept wasn't practical nor efficient and changed the design to be more conventional (by EV/hybrid standards) people threw a fit.

GM kept the Camaro as close to the concept as possible, leading to design trumping ergonomics in some cases, and people threw a fit.

Lets see how this pans out.

I think the difference is that GM went the wrong direction with both of those cars. Volt buyers would give up some practicality in order to be as eco-friendly as possible. But GM wanted to mass market the car and 'softened' it up in order to do so. But no first gen new concept vehicle will have mass appeal. People are skeptical of new technology. The Camaro was a mass market car but they kept all the 'cool' and the outrageous design, thinking it would appeal buyers. The car was bought - but people then realized all the shortcomings of it in a car they expected to be more user-friendly. This wasn't some new car, just one that fell asleep for 8 years. The 2002 Camaro was pretty easy to live with.

The buyer of this car expects everything to be the best, work flawlessly and provide them with the upmost comfort. That's what Bugatti needs to do which is why they're making it easier to sit in the back seat. No one is contorting themselves as if they're entering a 2 door cavalier to sit in the back of a million dollar car. I have no doubt this will be a magnificent car when they're done....because even if it's ugly, its still got "four figure power" hahah
