Alongside the production version of its new Up!, VW is already showing what a more powerful version of the minicar could look like.

VW says the GT Up! could handle 100 horsepower -- 26 hp above the top-rated production Up!.
Weighing just 1,984 pounds, the GT Up! gets 17-inch alloy wheels, a roof edge spoiler and double-flow exhaust system with chrome tailpipes.

Would the same company that dulled down the Jetta for North America bring the UP! and a GT version to this side of the Atlantic? I would hope so.
This size of car is becoming popular and with the right content would be great city commuter and probably a lot of fun on the open highway. If you have the right kind of highway. Go for it VW, we need more fun cars.

Americans are too fat and dumb to deserve this. We want our 4,500 pound muscle cars and super extra duty pickups to haul us to McDonalds in record time. Also not enough cup holders and chrome for our sophisticated tastes.

The UP! GT looks like a market leading concept. Honda, Mitsubishi, and Subaru are no longer building cars that gear heads love. There are a lot of displaced import lovers who would be all over this thing.
If VW can build this car, and not let the bean counters dumb it down or de-content the It! GT to a mere trim package, this care has the potential to start a whole new craze the way that the first GTI did.
No doubt young turners dreaming of increased performance could bring their wallets to VW who could easily make a small fortune selling performance parts and customization options!!!!
Volkswagen - if you build it, and sell it in the U.S., they will come!!!

I never say this - but I'd seriously like to have that. I'd be so happy with that (not the sissy version) as my next car. Although, I just bought a new car 3 weeks ago so I'd get this in 2-3 years... Right when it SHOULD make it's appearance here.

It's amazing that a car company that has been crapping on its main stream line up of cars (Jetta, Passat) can produce something as cool as this. Minus the CC and GTI, they should get the designers of the UP! to revamp the rest of the range.

Sweet: 100hp, under 2000 lbs. Like the Suzuki Swift GT from ~20 years ago. And I mean that in a good way.
