There are a lot of good reasons to dig the BMW i8 concept: sustainable vehicle production, carbon-reinforced plastic (CRP) over aluminum construction, BMW using a U.S. supplier for the CRP production, that it's a non-pod EV for people who like to drive but want to be environmentally responsible.
We like it for a different reason: LASER headlights. Look closely at that image. See what it says? BMW laserlight. Now, we assume that once this technology gets settled and we give up on it working the way Mark envisioned, we'll get bored with it and simply respect the light quality and efficiency over LEDs. But for now...LASERS!

Like to see a demo of it in action...that'll be the key. Still shocked we see halogens on any car. It's like a car without AC.

If the i8 were $60000 or less, I'd probably buy it; but it looks like it's going to be over $200000....

I'm curious to see what they end up doing with the doors on the production design. What I'm seeing right now is not feasible by any stretch for rainproofing or side impact.

just a nightmare I wish would go away
no one asked for something like this
it does not look appealing, it does not look involoving, it does not look fun
quite honestly, it looks hideous and signifies a sad direction the near future brings
without manual gear boxes, without analog connected steering feel, without the sounds of a combustion chamber, this looks like and will give a noninvolving experience of, a digititized video-game car.
sad
