Video: Jay-Z, Kanye Build a Lightweight Maybach with Sawzalls

 custom maybach.jpg

Remember when the cool thing in rap videos was dumping Cristal all over the place? Well, apparently that's been replaced by hacking high-end luxury cars to bits. At least it has been if we're to believe that this Jay-Z / Kanye West video for the new track Otis, is to be a harbinger of things to come. But at least they're going to auction the contraption off for charity, right?

Or, rather, a high-dollar take on something a few of our staff members did years ago for Sport Compact when they built the ultimate light-weight 2001 Nissan Sentra SE.

Jay-Z video-- featuring Aziz Ansari (Tom Haverford) for some reason --   and photo of Project Sentra after the jump.

Questionable language ahead....rap video.

Why would you put a video with foul language up at all? The thread was pretty stupid and you felt the need to add to the stupidity with the video? Pretty offensive.

I put it up because people are allowed to make their own decisions on these world-wide-webs. I'm not your mom and I won't tell you what is / is not offensive. I provided a warning and put the video after the break because I know some people would prefer to not be surprised by the language.

If you're offended, sorry, but that's exactly why the warning was there. (Or you could have saved yourself from both the language and the terrible music by just hitting mute. But that's another discussion.)

What was offensive? Anything said in that song is aired on television. You're comment is pretty silly.

Maybe theres a huge age gap between you and I (and Magrath) but that video is far from offensive, and rather entertaining.

here you go, an actual offensive song.

"I put it up because people are allowed to make their own decisions on these world-wide-webs."

What a cop out. Why not post porn that features two people messing around on the hood of a car? They both have as much to do with cars as the other does....NOTHING. Just because a video has a car in it does not mean it a place on an automotive website. It is more about insulting the intelligence of the reader as anything else.

stoppre75: if one has to explain taste and class to somebody then the point is moot.

And I mean "still to err" in the sense of a type II error; being too conservative can be problematic, and failing to recognize that being too conservative can be problematic can be really problematic, leading to things like the policies that keeping the Huayra out of the US.

At least they are rich enough to play with cars the same way the every day person would an old sentra. Much appreciated.

bodyblue, STFU, capiche?

No one here gives a hoot about your morals.

What a cop out." ....you mean; WARNING......which you most likely ignored all together. I mean, you "watched it to see the chopped up Maybach like everyone else, right? The point of these articles are to peak your interest with whats happening with cars today (which it obviously did). Its no different than when they show you a celebrity who has just wrecked their exotic or some rich people who crashed several exotic cars at the same time.

"Why not post porn that features two people messing around on the hood of a car? They both have as much to do with cars as the other does....NOTHING." - Its a video about an ultra expensive car that has been modified in an unconventional way....which is why its relevant. Porn on a car hood is not on par with that at all. Unless the car was the focus, like it was here and something special (Hayura?). That said, i'm sure it would also be posted with a warning.

"Just because a video has a car in it does not mean it a place on an automotive website." - i think that means its got plenty reason enough to be on a CAR website. Especially given the car and the relation to the project sentra.

"It is more about insulting the intelligence of the reader as anything else." - Nothing about giving you an option to watch a rap video to see a car is insulting to your intelligence, other than the fact that you made it your main focus to complain about the fact that you watched it. If anything, its more insulting that you would take a stab at the editors after they gave you fair warning and a clear choice (unless your remote controlled and Mike has the controller, then i'd understand). Normally i would be on the side of mocking them for the usual spelling errors, cursing, and sometimes inaccurate information. But this is not the case. Also this rap video is TAME. Listen to some rap by the ying yang twins, then reassess the vulgarity here.

i think body blue does not like rap well then don't see the video. this is insideline website what ever they put on there website should be ok to watch. This video is offensive to you WOW

firstwagon says:

I agree the video is lame but then I'm old enough to wonder why they are hacking up a song as well as a car.

Not much foul language though.

bimmerjay says:

10:34 PM, 08/12/11

The song and video are pretty awful but I don't see what's offensive. There was a language warning and a voluntary click required to watch the video. And the language wasn't even foul. What's the problem here?

bodyblue says:

"bodyblue, STFU, capiche?

No one here gives a hoot about your morals."

That is really an intelligent response! The power of your intellect is stunning. Its not about morals, it is about having a little taste and class on a nice site like this one. You can do anything you want as long as it does not affect me, but I can say what I want about it as well.

BTW yes, IL has a right to post this video and everybody else has a right to defend it....but I have a right to say that I dont think it is cool or classy to do so. This site usually has pretty good taste but lately Magrath has been fairly rude (calling hybrid drivers, "jerks"). If that does not offend you, thats fine but I have a right to say that I find it in bad taste. Shouting someone down like the above poster did is even less classy than that video. Our society today has so little class, I guess I was foolish to even say anything. Carry on folks.....sorry to intrude on your world.

agnh says:

I'm not a fan of either of them, but to their credit, it does appear to have been an actual Maybach and not just a replicar.
I'm sure the dealer was just happy to sell the damn car. "This Maybach, my good sirs, is the finest engineered luxury car made today. You want to do what now? Oh, well, as long as the check clears, enjoy".

bodyblue,
You chose to click on and watch that video. Even after you were given a warning about the language.
Where do you get the nerve to wag your finger at IL when it was through your own stupidity that you saw something you found questionable.

bodyblue says:

04:13 PM, 08/13/11

Sigh....my point was that I have found this site to be a classy and well run one in the past and I have seen that degrade somewhat over the past few months. Since I like this site, I spoke up and voiced my opinion. I find it funny that instead of debating the point, I am attacked and told to "STFU" and that I am stupid. Where do you get the "nerve" to call me stupid? Why not present a calm and rational counter point to my stand? Or is that beyond you? Never mind actually. I can see that I am in the minority on this one so I will just forget it.

kaidan33 says:

05:17 PM, 08/13/11

Yeah, just forget it. That video, horrible as it is, is tame by rap's standards. It may not be your cup of tea and you can protest all you want, but we have a right to voice our opinion as well. Also, funny that you don't like being called stupid but you did it to me. The nerve. Haha. Take it like a man, if you are one.

theace415 says:

10:56 PM, 08/13/11

well other than that great way to take apart a nice car

bodyblue says:

07:35 AM, 08/14/11

"Also, funny that you don't like being called stupid but you did it to me."

Not is so many words, but yes. Anybody that would say what you did has little capability to discuss anyway. All you do is shout people down that you dont agree with. And shows a lack of class and brains.

stoppre75 says:

BodyBlue:

After forgetting about this IL post for a weekend, I came back this morning to see you're still bickering over it all.... I really don't have anything to add here thats productive - I think everyone covered it extensively by telling you to STFU (rightly, may i add)

But you responded to me pretty quickly saying "if one has to explain taste and class to somebody then the point is moot."

1. I never mentioned the words taste or class, and inferred nothing about them either. I said the words non-offending, entertaining and i called you silly. All three of those points were proven true by the rest of the gallery here.

2. The fact that you have to bring up "class" or "taste" 3 more times after that shows where you're argument is stemming from. Its fact-less and based in your belief that you live on some higher moral ground than the rest of us. Do us all a favor and keep you're condescending opinions to yourself next time Magrath posts up a video with a WARNING prior to it.

bodyblue says:

07:28 AM, 08/15/11

"Do us all a favor and keep you're condescending opinions to yourself next time Magrath posts up a video with a WARNING prior to it."

In other words you are intolerant of other peoples opinions. That is the only point proved by this thread. Instead of debating the merits of posting this video on an automotive site, you demand I not say a word about it. Guess what? Its not going to happen. It amuses me to no end when people talk about freedom to see what they want to see but yet want to deny other people the right to dis-agree about the subject.

e10rice says:

Back to the fact that their destroying a very expensive car. What their doing with the car since the video is done and who has a need for a car with no roof, doors or hood and cant legally be driven on public roads anymore? Auctioning it off and all the money will be given to the East African Drought Disaster Fund. Sounds great! What a cool thing to do for those people. And then it hits you.....Who is gonna fork over money for that car? It's never gonna fetch the money amount that it was bought for to begin with and not including the money and labor it cost to change it (cause Jay-z and Kanye didnt do the work for free....AHAHAHAHA). So wouldn't it have been a better idea to just write a check to the foundation instead of buying a expensive car hacking it up so its not worth anything near what it use to be and then try to auction it off for money? Sounds like a waste of money that could have been used for the foundation, not make a music video. Its not like MTV really shows them anymore.
