Video: Hamsters Shuffle Back with LMFAO for the 2012 Kia Soul

 2012 Kia Soul Hamster.jpg

I didn't understand this advertising campaign the first time it came around and got a few million views on YouTube and I still don't. And the super annoying 'Party Rock Anthem' by LMFAO isn't helping.

Oh, right, I almost forgot that there's a car involved here, the 2012 Kia Soul.

The ad has already started infecting TVs worldwide.

When everything you and your competitors sell work pretty much the same, look pretty much the same and cost pretty much the same you have to find a way to set yourself apart. The Hamsters in a video game world will speak to their desired demographic better than Toyota's Sell A Thon will for Scion. Other than the Hamsters and the occasional VW I ad I'm hard pressed to remember any auto ad. Love the Hammys!

Kia really REALLY needs to get the real 'Hamster' into one of these adds, perhaps for the C'eed.

considering the target market for the car. this ad is dead on. Its also pretty funny in a wtf way. A lot more amusing than commercials that go on and on in a monotone voice about its fuel economy and super quiet ride lol

I watched it a couple of times and it just slays me.....there is something about battle-bots shaking their butts that is a scream.

I wasn't laughing, but I WAS impressed. Not at all what I thought the ad would be.

This is the closest I will ever get to a video game. Unless, maybe, they have hamsters in them.

I think the Soul appeals to all ages, and most everyone should find the ad amusing.

Love those ads. We don't get them on TV so it's great when they get posted.

First I have not seen the ads on TV.....only on here today. You dont get them in Canada?

"Not at all what I thought the ad would be."

I am curious Ed, what did you think it would be like? I just had no idea....I just knew I would be surprised.

I'm sorry... I think it's pretty good! Even if you don't particularly like the music, that song is one of those most popular songs on the radio and in every club right now... props to kia for catching on that quick.

...and something about all the robots or whatever they are shaking it crack me up! haha

I never seen any of the hamster ads on tv. Not sure why they don't show them here but it's too bad. My kids love them and they are the next generation of people who will be buying cars.

Ahhhh ok ...it is a shame, my life loves them as well. I can see how anyone can help at least smile at the one above. And I can see why it is popular in clubs. I went to the LMFAO website and watched the real video of the song....I liked it for what it was....a cool song to dance too. I always wished I liked to dance....it looks like folks have so much fun!

Gave me a good laugh. I prefer the original commercial with "Do What You Do", it's just a more classic beat to me, but this one is pretty funny. Especially the hamsters in the funky pants.....

I guess I live in a different world than the rest of you.

The Hamster ads are some of the dumbest on television and this one isn't any better.

bodyblue says:

Yeah....a grim humorless world.

church123 says:

Acknowledging that humor is highly individual, what makes them dumb brn?

Are they ineffective?
Are they too simple?

I'm just curious.

church123, rapping animated animals. It's an overdone formula to meet the lowest common denominator.

You'll notice I started by recognizing that my opinion was different than many here. I find it dumb and not innovative. Many of you feel otherwise. I don't have a problem with your opinions. Mine is different.

church123 says:

Oh I understand and respect that brn. I totally get that someone might not find it funny - like you with this commercial, I'm often amazed at what some people find funny. And innovation wasn't being discussed. But I still don't understand why it's dumb. It seems to capture attention very well, everyone seems to know its from Kia, and it seems to appeal across many demographic groups. Seems like a pretty sharp commercial to me.
