Video: General Lee vs. Bandit: The Best Car Chase Ever

 Bandit vs generral lee.jpg

The guys at Hot Rod have put together two of the most famous on-screen cars of all time: the General Lee and Bandit. It's all too common to remake Bullitt, but a fictional mashup is surprising and really, really cool. Who knew Hot Rod still had it in 'em?

Watch the video after the jump, and catch the story on newsstands (I had to look it up) in the November issue (which comes out in October.)

What other fictional mashups would be cool? Bullitt vs the R34 from FnF? With the jumps. Doc Brown's DeLorean vs Kitt?

Side note: Replace these two cars with a rotating fleet of semi-performance cars, trucks and two-door SUVs and you've got a fairly accurate portrait of too much of my formative years. We had a lot of fields...

And because YouTube suggest it, here's a much lower quality version of the, uh...same...thing.

No jumps? Other than that, pretty good video. (The real one)

LOL I will take American muscle any day.....being a kid in the 70s those two cars bring back great memories! Oh and I will take a RB440 over whatever motor is in the T/A. Compare the sound in that video over the fartcan M5 BMW in the other post in this blog.

I think they should do a better comparison: Jessica Simpson, Catherine Bach, or Sally Field. Hahaha.

This is simply nostalgia? speaking, I have to go with Frog :) I still remember Smokey and the Bandit as the first movie I went to by myself, although my dad did drop me off at the movie theater.

I so badly wanted a Trans Am growing up. I also enjoyed watching Dukes of Hazard, hated what they did to those cars with all the jumps. I really enjoyed Daisy Duke :)

But even to this day I have to go with the Bandit Car, even though my family sedan is quicker and probably faster even governed. I also want an 87 Grand National to boot.

Aura the real Bandit cars had 455s and went like snot......the T/As that had the "400" on the shaker had Pontiac engines and the ones that said "6.6" had the Olds 403.....by the late 70s all they had was about 185-200hp....pretty sad. I like the Formulas better....less glitz and went just as fast. The Charger was just in a league of its own. The best looking Dodge of all time, hands down.

bodyblue:

I know, I was thinking of the 400 and 403 engines, not the 455, which as you correctly stated, went like snot. I just can't help it, that movie hooked me as a little kid from minute one. Trucks, cars, car chases. At one time I wanted to be a truck driver. I know the bandit car is flashy, but as they say, "the heart wants what the heart wants". This heart wants the bandit car, and an 87 Grand National.

I really do like the Charger, just not in that silly color from the Dukes of Hazard.

""the heart wants what the heart wants"

Yes it does.....I grew up watching "The Rockford Files" and still have a place in my heart for a gold Espirt.......

O.K. Everybody is missing the ULTIMATE showdown! Buford T. Justice (Pontiac) Vs. Roscoe P. Coltrane (Dodge Monaco preferably and not the original AMC Cruiser from the first Season). I've got my money on Roscoe!

I think the AMC from the first season was a Matador.....maybe an Ambassador.....

I remember a road test from MI in the 70s ....a Pontiac Police cruiser...I think it was a Ventura but not sure and a Monaco....both had 400s and both were dogs. The CHP used Monacos (Coronets) with 440s in 78...the last year for the RB engine in cars.
