Skipping the traditional auto-show scene for its highbrow collaboration, Fiat will be showing the limited edition 500 by Gucci special edition at New York's Fashion Week.
The Fiat 500 by Gucci is the brainchild of everyone's favorite auto-show-model-picker / denim-Ferrari-driving fashionista, Lapo Elkann. "I am honored that I was able to connect Fiat and Gucci, especially in such an important anniversary year for Italy. Being Italian, it makes me proud to have contributed to thei Fiat 500 by Gucci, which brings together the spirit of two brands that so perfectly symbolize our country's savior faire in the world." said Elkann of the project.
The anniversary of which he speaks is the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, though it also happens to be the 90th anniversary of Gucci.
Differentiating the Gucci edition is the signature Gucci green/red/green strape across the side of the Fiat or along the top of the convertible. It also gets Gucci signatures, satin-chrome exterior accents, new fenders, unique wheels with interlocking GG hubcaps and "brake pads, which have been lacquered in signature Gucci green." Not that I don't understand a typo here and there, I have to assume they mean "caliper" not "pad."
On the inside, the Gucci 500 gets new materials, two-tones seats in Frau leather (which the internet tells me is an option on Alfas and Maseratis), premium leather on the door panels and a hand-stitched leather-wrapped steering wheel in two-tone ivory / white.
Of course, beyond the car, there's also a full line of matching goods in the 500 by Gucci collection. Expect these to sell quickly -- and with a billion Gucci options -- when they go on sale here in the fall.

Does the 500 have enough leg room for her?

It's pretty obvious why they put her in front of their car, but I don't think it works all that well here. She would work well in front of a Ferrari 250 or Jaguar XKE, but in front of this car her sensous form clashes with the kitchy cuteness of the 500, even with the 500 gussied up by Gucci. Perhaps as a joke it works, but Gucci isn't really known for tongue in cheek humor.
Just my personal opinion, of course.

They do appear to be trying too hard. Stick with fun and cute. Where's that girl IL had test drive theirs?

Wow! If that "option" is available on the Fiat 500, I'm definitely getting one! And, I'm not talking about Gucci.

Really, guys, a woman showing her legs is worth commenting about? Hell, I see that much leg at the grocery store.

She's probably worth commenting about more than commenting about people commenting about her, or commenting about people commenting about people commenting about her for that matter. YMMV ;-)

What's this talk about wheels? Was there a car in that picture?
