If you had a BMW 1 Series M and your buddy had an E46 M3 CSL and you both lived in Germany, you'd take them on the 'Ring, wouldn't you? Sure, you would.
The 1M driver reports that this was an 8:15 lap and that he's looking to break 8 minutes with further practice. There aren't any official numbers to look at, but it's obvious this guy has nice, quick hands, and he doesn't seem a bit flustered by the difficulty of the Nordschleife.

I would say that I wish we had a "Ring" in the States but given the mentality and lack of driver skill here I'd just be wishing for my life to end.

8:15? Time to get a 135 up to as-close-to-M-spec as possible on Forza and give it a go. Challenge accepted (except he has the handicap of doing it in real life with no rewind button so he wins anyway).
Why why why did my family ever leave Germany? OK there is a good reason why but then why didn't they just go back?

... and they both get smoked by some kind of 911 (Burgundy).

8:15 laughable. The ZR1 just set a new record at the ring of 7:19. Almost a minute slower is not even worth writing about.
ZR1 Rules!

What an ignorant thing to say - let's see - the BMW seats 4, weighs about the same as a ZR1, and has approximately half the horsepower.
Also, there is the little psychological barrier that this guy is driving his OWN CAR, not the the heroic ZR1 pilot who was driving a car owned by his employer - if it breaks, he just comes to work the next day same as usual. If the BMW breaks, he's just a guy who has videos posted on the internet of him driving the car on a racetrack and says he's planning on doing it again - good luck with that warranty claim.
Take your car on the 'Ring - lets see how close you can get to what hired guns do driving somebody else's car.

zr1man - Do you think that 7:19 run was done on a closed course or with traffic?
If you watched the video, you can easily see many of his (and the CSL's) lines and speed affected by slower traffic. Look at 5:10 for a good example.
I'm not knocking the performance of the ZR1. I'm just saying you should appreciate this video for what it is, and for what it isn't.

zr1man furthers the stereotype that the majority of Corvette owners/fans are douche bags

Wow. Quite impressive. That video certainly shows the driver to have an iron set of you know what to hit those speeds with other drivers on the course. Is it me or does the driver have to use a lot of counter steering? Is the 1M that tail happy? With it's short wheel base I guess it is not that surprising. Very impressive car and driver. P
