Video: 2012 Subaru Impreza Explained to Canadians

 Subaru Impreza vid.jpg

The text that accompanied the email submission of this Subaru of Canada-made video of the 2012 Subaru Impreza is really all the description you need.

"It's a five-minute video about the 2012 Subaru Impreza by Subaru of Canada. It's pretty dorky so only Subaru nerds or haters will probably watch it."

And, yeah, that's kind of spot-on. Unless you're buying a Subaru in Canada in which case this video could be extremely handy.

(Also, that hatchback is really growing on me.)

This Impreza is quite impressive...but when are they going to make a Diesel-Electric?

Now, how long do we have to wait for the WRX?

It is impressive. Unhappy that it's been delayed until Q1 2012.
Subaru already makes and sells diesel, at least bring the diesel.

Agreed about the WRX. My 2010 Mazda3's lease is up at the end of next year; a WRX wagon would be a good replacement option if I'm willing to go with a new car.

*Zzzzzz*

I'm sorry, that video put me to sleep.

The base Impreza has always been a bit of a snoozer. Scoobies NEED the wider wheel arches of the STI (and now WRX) trim to look "right" to me.

Aesthetically, this new look is an acceptable rebound from the previous generation's questionable design.

They are a neat car but are saddled with the awful boxer engine and a CVT. A shame, really.

What? Don't know if I can wait that long.

Late November-December is the earliest the '12 Impreza is expected. Reliable sources say January is more likely.

I spy HID headlights on the sedan at the 53-55 second mark?!

looks wise its on par with the current one. Interesting to see how the wrx turns out.

@kplacer: The boxer is extremely reliable, and the CVT in the Legacy and Outback have been given high praise.

If the boxer was no good, would Toyota have let Subaru design the drivetrain for the new FR-S, or whatever it's going to be called?

As a Subaru owner/lover, I must say the video was quite mesmerizing

As an older person, I am not all that interested in upgrading to the larger Ouback. My '05 Outback is still like new. But next year, I will probably be ready to downsize. The 2012 Impreza appears to be all I need.... as long as I can get a manual transmission with a sunroof. Are you listening to me, Subaru? Probably not.

The Impreza has never been a great-looking car. That being said, this one probably has the least polarizing aesthetic in some time.

Is this 5-door the one to replace our Mercury Sable wagon? It is definitely in the running.

A nice ad with lots of information but why all the video of Subarus driving around on nice summer days?

Where my Subaru really shined was with 20 to 30cm of fresh snow on the road. If you want to sell all wheel drive to Canadians you need at least 50% snow video coverage.

@kplacer: You haven't driven the new outback or legacy with the boxer engine and CVT... The CVT is better than any other on the market and more tolerable than most auto's I think.

@ed124c: You can get a new outback and a new impreza now with sunroofs, heated seats and a manual tranny... the outbacks are a little harder to find, but you can get them. If you want leather though you are SOL...

I actually like this impreza. If it gets better mileage I might be down for the wagon/hatch model in a few years! I actually think this is the best iteration of whatever their new design language is. it at least looks the most cohesive compared to the other models.

"Pounds per foot of torque" made me chuckle a bit haha

This is on my shortlist for a new car, along with the Focus hatch and facelifted Mazda3 hatch. Not liking the spoiler on the 5 door too much though. Otherwise, very attractive!

SOA is claiming 36 mpg with the CVT. Pretty darn good for a full-time AWD car.
