Sketched: Frankfurt-Bound Jaguar C-X16

Jaguar has just released a preview sketch of the slick new coupe concept they'll be showing at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The vehicle is designed by the XJ, XF and XK design team working under Ian Callum. "The C-X16 concept is a precursor to future Jaguar sports cars that will aim to set new class benchmarks in design, vehicle dynamics and technology." reads the press release.

"Great Jaguar cars have always been beautiful, innovative and have looked firmly to the future," added Callum.

Until Sept 7th when it's shown at Frankfurt (As the XE?), this is all we've got to go on. It looks sharp -- Callum is good at this -- but does anyone else see a Z4 rear end, an Aston / Zagato front and a side vent from the....Kia Optima?

Groan.

It starts with a charcoal sketch, advances to single colored sketchs, then full colored sketches, then computer generated paintings, then maybe some camoed blurry photos, then close up photos of external design, and then some leaked actual photos of the entire car. And then, and then, we see the new car in all its glory, and we say: Gee, it looks just like last year's.

I am so tired of this interminable progression.

It looks like every other Jag (and Aston Martin) coupe out there. Is there some sort of rule that Jag/Aston coupes must look like this?
