During our first drive of the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque our man across the pond, Alistair Weaver, said it's "A stylish, well-executed, compact SUV that's too small to do anything but look good."
He also said a number of other interesting things. But if you're in the tl;dr crowd you missed out, so here's our video review. Watch Alistair drive the stylish new Evoque around a side of the world you rarely see here on Inside Line. (And as you watch, keep in mind that AW is in the 6'4" - 6'5" ish neighborhood...when he says there's headroom, there's headroom.)

"But if you're in the tl;dr crowd you missed out."
I must be in that group because I have no idea what that means.

Yea, I don't know what a tl;dr is either. Usually I can correct the typos in my head, but I have no idea what that was supposed to be.

Sorry, too much time on the interwebs this week. tl;dr = Too long; didn't read.

Ugly, slow, cramp=Failed Design...Video shows the horse is far more capable.

I prefer the proportions of the 5-door, and I love everything about it but the price. The interior appears to be top notch, but it still seems about 4 or 5 grand too pricey to me. I will be test driving one anyway to see how it compares to the Q5. Anyone interested can now build his/her own at LR's website.

Nice video. Looks more than capable enough, and very stylish in 3-door form.
Although I'm tired of hearing the so-much-money-for-so-small-a-car cliche trotted out yet again. You can get a cheap Chevy truck which is massive, or a Porsche 997, which is expensive and small. The whole idea of equating the surface area of the car's sheet metal to value is very old school Detroit.

Top Gear's test showed that it is fairly capable, or at least more than you'd expect...

"tl;dr" (aka tealdeer) means "too long, didn't read" which is a witty way that online forum dwellers tell their fellow posters they have the attention span of a flea.

This car makes a lot of sense for a single person or a young urban couple without kids, who want a trendy / fun to drive SUV and don't need to ever carry 5 or 7 passengers. Land Rover has done an amazing job figuring out that this niche exists and is the first to enter this market segment in the US with a 2-door luxury SUV. Without a doubt, we will see new competitors enter this space (Porsche Cajun?). It's just too bad there aren't any more powerful engine options available at the moment.
I also agree with AW that the Q5 is utterly boring. I sat in 1 and it's nothing more than an elevated A4 with a larger truck - meh.

I think it's a nice looking sporty design. The rear view out the back window is more like that of a tank's vision slit, which would make some sort of parking aid necessary. And I wonder how much the sloping rear roof hinders cargo capacity. But ultimately this sort of vehicle at this price is a fashion statement more than a practical purchase. Fine if you have the money to burn, I'd want a little more practicality at that price.
Until they can get their act together in terms of reliability, I wouldn't want to own one, however. It also seems a little overpriced.
