Mini has finally released the first photos of the 2012 Mini Coupe, a car we've been seeing teased for nearly two years now, and it looks....exactly how we thought.

The 2012 Mini Coupe will have essentially the same engine lineup as the Mini Cooper with a top-dog, John Cooper Works Coupe featuring a 1.6-liter turbo motor pushing out 208 horsepower to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The combination is good for 0 - 60 in 6.1 seconds and makes it the "fastest-accelerating Mini ever with the highest top speed (149 mph)."

The 2012 Mini Coupe will be introduced to the U.S. this fall with standard electric power steering, dynamic stability control and park distance control.

I kind of like it. If I was buying another FWD toy it would definitely be on my list.

But the real question is, how fast will it be around the track? And that means handing it over to our tame racing driver....

The rear window with the roof line is a little odd. but with the roadster that should cure everything!

Is it any lighter? You seem to give up quite a bit with this car, hopefully you get something in return.

I'm having a hard time deciding which was a bigger mistake, this car, or the "cram it in the boot" super bowl commercial. Nevermind, this car takes it by a mile....and a half. Move over Aztec, there's a new fugly duckling in town.

Is it supposed to compete with the Audi TT coupe?

Is there much head room left? Does the average 6 foot male stand a chance fitting comfortably?

The proportions of this car is really weird. It's like they took a Mini Cooper, chopped the top off, and then glued a Miata roof and glass on it.

I'll err on the side of not liking it. I'm sure when I see it in the metal, I'll like it even less.

Mini, please just change the spelling of cooper to couper when you name this.

not attractive, looks like unfinished concept.

Wait - I thought the coupe tradeoff was that in exchange for giving up some functionality, you got a BETTER LOOKING car...?

They'll never fit as many clowns into this as they could in the sedan.

First thing I thought was, "gross." I think it has to do with the red roof...if it was the same color as the body it might look a little less... gross.

I actually like the way it looks, although I can't find a reason why you would buy one of these rather than a Cooper hatchback though.
