Print-away, copycats! A Federal Judge has ruled that the Pure Detroit clothing line owned by Moda Group LLC can continue printing and selling "Imported from Detroit" products. U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow ruled in Moda's favor saying that Chrysler wouldn't suffer irreparable harm and didn't have a strong likelihood of winning the case. The Judge ruled that the slogan was geographical, descriptive and arguably misleading and thus was not a valid trademark eligible for protection. Descriptive slogans are afforded the lowest-level of trademark protection if any said an intellectual property attorney we spoke with.
Chrysler spokesman Michael Palese, said, "Chrysler Group is disappointed with this opinion and will continue to pursue all avenues to protect our Imported from Detroit trademark." Chrysler has sold 5,800 items bearing the slogan since they began printing shortly after the Super Bowl commercial.

It's too bad really, the copy-cats are just stealing from charity.

Chrysler think Americans are idiots. Most of their products are made in Canada (300, Challenger, Minivans) and in Mexico (Ram Trucks). Can't believe that they think they can pull a wool over our eyes and get away with it.

jazzy7, What about all the other vehicles? Either way, I'd rather have a vehicle made in NA than one made overseas. Also, you forgot about the Ram trucks that are made in Warren, MI

looks like the judge agrees with you ...

Other will just keep telling you you just don't get. That you have to read deep into the ad and discover it's inner meaning.
