Aston Martin Unveils New V12 Zagato

No, Takahashi did not just Photoshop an Aston Martin Vantage with a Nissan GT-R. But it kinda looks that way, eh?

Aston Martin released the first official photos of its V12 Zagato ahead of the car's official unveiling tomorrow at the Villa D'Este Concours in Lake Como, Italy. The car is a result of a collaboration between Aston and Italian design house Zagato, and comes on the 50th anniversary of the legendary DB4GT Zagato.

"The Zagato design language is a perfect complement to our design and engineering expertise," Aston Martin CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez said. "Fifty years ago, Italian design houses were widely seen as leading the way with new designs ... but Aston Martin has its own in-house design ability, so this new venture with Zagato is more collaborative than it perhaps would have been in the past."

Indeed, the V12 Zagato is the latest in a line of special, low-production Astons that have included the DB4GT Zagato, V8 Vantage Zagato and DB7 Zagato.

My knee-jerk reaction at first glance: GT-R.

What a hot mess.

It looks good at the front, but the rear end is just a jumble of... stuff. Looks like they forgot to design it until the last minute, then threw on what was missing.

I'm not a fan of the rear end at all...which is a shame, because I think Aston's generally have some of the nicest rear ends around.

Not very enthusiastic about this one. Other Astons are better on the eyes.

It might be special for fans of Aston who know about the history behind the name-plate, but to me, I shrug my shoulders.

Front looks like I'd expect. The rear looks like Ferrari, which is a bad thing.

I see 370Z rather than GT-R

Gross. The slanting, straight-edge GT-R upper window line only serves to emphasize a saggy posterior and horrible prolapsed diffuser. This car redefines the term "butt ugly".

combination of aston martin with the toyota ft-86 ii and ferrari california

Let’s keep in mind that none of the older ones were necessarily beauty queens either.

the rear looks like a great white shark.

The '60s version can't be topped, but the DB7 Zagato isn't bad. The Vantage Zagato is atrocious and this new one isn't far behind.

DB4 looks the best, followed by the new one, then the DB7 and Vantage

I think it looks okay actually. The rear end just needs a decklid crease or something to continue that line that defines the top of the tailight.

won't deny that it kind of reminds me of the 370z and GT-R though

Exposed carbon fiber rear diffusers can look pretty good if they're not overdone, but on this Aston I think they left too much uncovered. Bring the bodywork down just above the first diffuser fin (to cover where the number plate is) and I think it would look much better.

That's funny, I absolutely adore that rear end. To each his own I guess...

Well i love this car, but i love every Aston car. To me it is another timeless classic

I also see GTR in the roofline. But unlike the GTR, this is an absolute showstopping stunner!!!

Anyone who thinks this is ugly should get put on some tan Dockers, get in their Camry, drive to the grocery store to buy some Wonder bread, and stop pretending to be an auto enthusiast!

;)

(I'm wearing tan Dockers)

The car looked great until I got to the rear, that rear end is hideous.......not what I think of when I hear Aston Martin.
