Zagato TZ3 Stradale: Interesting Car, and They're Going to Build 9

I'm digging on the idea of the Zagato TZ3 Stradale -- if not everything about the actual execution. See, the Italian design firm has been involved in a two-year project to celebrate Alfa Romeo's 100th anniversary. The first car to come out of it, the TZ3 Corsa (above right), a one-off track car, was all Alfa 8C under the skin. But this TZ3 Stradale (above left) is all Dodge Viper ACR underneath, even though it's still a design tribute to the even neater looking Alfa Giulia TZ (Tubolare Zagato) of the mid-1960s.

Details are sketchy, but Zagato says it developed the TZ3 Stradale's unit-body from the Viper's. That means a steel tube frame (with a lot of aluminum suspension bits holding it up), but instead of plastic body panels, Zagato used carbon fiber. The drivetrain is of course an 8.4-liter V10 and a heavy-duty six-speed manual gearbox.

Whereas Zagato won't build any additional TZ3 Corsas, it will build 9 TZ3 Stradales, all road-legal. The front end on the Viper-based Stradale is a little jarring, but the Kammback tail stops me in my tracks.

Top picture: Just beautiful
Then I scroll down: Badunkadunk. Not digging it.

Overall though, this is a gorgeous vehicle. And a beast to boot.

You can really see the Viper heritage, even with all that body work. I guess this means the Devon GTX won't be the most expensive Viper anymore. Styling wise, one of the sterns of the Olsen twins may be suffering an advanced form of the Ferrarri FF’s Elephantitus. Still I’d probably sign a contract with the devil to drive one.

Striking, but the 60's versions are way better. I know they didn't have to worry about safety and the environment back then, or even reliability. Still, the way they look makes those compromises seem reasonable.
