Priced: 2012 Range Rover Evoque Will Start at $45,375 in Europe

Evoque_01.jpg

When the 2012 Range Rover Evoque goes on sale in the U.K. in September it will carry a base price of, wait for it, $45,375. That gets you an eD4 Pure five-door two-wheel drive with a six-speed manual which has a 148-horsepower 2.2-liter diesel engine.

Upgrade to the dynamic coupe SD4 -- with automatic and AWD -- and you're looking at an additional 11,000 Pounds -- not dollars. And that's before any options. Like colors. It appears that Fuji White is the only color without an additional fee.

Pricing in the US is expected to start at $45,000. You don't get the services of Victoria Beckham cheap.

Configure your own UK version here. (mine rang up 49,280 pounds before I ran away)

Looks like a Ford Explorer.

Does the Volt still beat it for "Most Dollars Per Horsepower."?

Any idea who would buy this thing?

For 45K you can get the car that looks just like it-- the Explorer-- almost completely optioned out.

In fact, my local Ford dealer has a FWD Explorer (the new model) discounted to $26,800. Or maybe it was $28,600. In any case, a LOT less money than the 148 hp RaRo. (I made that up, he he.)

Something very wrong about a front wheel drive Range Rover. Remember the old days when they used to build off road trucks?

This is the one to get....

(BTW... be careful with exchange rates. it never works out that way. The Brits pay more for everything)

People who buy this are people who want a Range Rover product, but don't want or need the same one as their parents have or had.

Also, there is a BIG difference between this and an Explorer. If you don't understand the difference, then this isn't your type of car.

I know two people that have purchased new Range Rovers. They were in the shop a lot. If thats the difference, no thanks.

If you're buying this over a Ford Edge you're basically paying a stupid tax.

2012 Range Rover Evoque is elegant and very powerful off-road ride. The SUV looks stunning in red color.
