Have you not yet downloaded the sweet new Inside Line iPhone app? Or do you have an Android phone and want some salt rubbed in the wound?
Well, then, please enjoy the next 63 seconds of slickly edited video, as our developers and IL Editor Ed Hellwig walk you through our iPhone app. It works on any iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPod Touch running iOS 4.2 or better. The iPad version is coming in May. The Android version is coming later this decade.

Any hope of translating this to an iPad app? Using the InsideLine website on the iPad is a painful experience... right now I'm using this excellent app in "2x" mode. Great work by the devs!

You guys do know that there are more android devices out there than iOS devices right? I use both, not talking ish. Just sayin'.

I use neither and that way there is no spying on me by Apple or anyone else. If you dont think that the secret programs on smart phones to keep track of your every move is not an incredible inroad on personal liberty, you guys are CRAZY. Turn off the fone!

It would be nice to be able save the photos as a wallpaper. Otherwise I like the app.

An Android version of this app completed at the current part of this decade would be greatly appreciated.

Do you think the IL app will track what you read and post?

@ bb
You realize that if you use a mobile phone, that your service provider can track of the location of the device/calls made, right? And that law enforcement has used such information in many criminal cases right? So really, if someone really wanted to, they could keep track of your every move even if you just have an ordinary cellphone. Go put your foil hat back on.
back on topic: iWould get this app if iHad an iPhone.

another vote for android.... also would love to see used car pricing/specs on the regular Edmunds app. I have downloaded it, but I would find it far more useful if I could spec/price used cars as well.

TP3.
the info being stored in I phones and I pads is much more complete than what you discussed...and yes I did know that. It also tracks info like texts and when and where they were made and also apps that were used and when and where. The point is that nobody KNEW about this feature (outside of some law enforcement and Apple and other smartphone makers) AND with the device the Michigan cops are using to extract that info on the spot with no warrent peoples rights are being violated. Also your location is being tracked even when you are not on the phone and the cops are using that info. Ordinary cell phones only show your location when you make a call. Do you think it is right for the government to keep track of your every move and use that against you without a warrent? Do you think it is right that phone makers dont tell users about this feature?
This is not a foil hat issue...it is a civil rights issue. Dont ever be complacent when the government wants more control over your personal life.

Here is the BS reason Apple is doing this.....it is chilling really....."We MUST have comprehensive data"

I know this app is intended for newer phones, but its a real shame it won't load on my iPhone 3G. It doesn't get past the load screen and crashes every time.
As for viewing your site on the iPad, I've never had a problem. Of course the flash content doesn't work, but I don't generally view that info anyways.

NYTimes says the tracking thing might be a bug:
http://www.nytimes.com/external/venturebeat/2011/04/21/21venturebeat-apples-iphoneipad-location-tracking-may-be-a-16973.html?partner=rss&emc=rss
And David Pogue has, imo, a pretty good opinion piece on the whole story:
http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/04/21/your-iphone-is-tracking-you-so-what/?ref=iphone
To be honest, I don't see what the big issue is, as I have nothing to hide. I haven't heard about the govt using any of this information against someone w/out a warrant (please enlighten me and post links), and as for Michigan cops, well, don't they have some more important issues to be dealing with in that state? Like, actual crimes?
As for Apple's reason, it is perfectly legitimate, not BS. To use all the GPS-related apps, they need to know your location, and you agree to this at the very beginning when you turn on an iPhone. Same applies to Android. The fact that they know where you are isn't surprising. The only new thing here is that it stores the info on your phone and PC.
