2012 Lexus LFA Road Trip: The End of the Road

lfa_dropoff_3.jpg

Well, the boys are back from their LFA road trip. What you see above is one of the hardest things they've had to do -- and not hauling heavy luggage with weak arms from hours behind the wheel and days of burger-fueled mayhem and machine guns.

The main participants are still recuperating, but we've got final thoughts, fuel economy numbers and a wrap up video after the jump. Anything you'd still like to know about the 2012 Lexus LFA?

Fuel Economy:

Average: 11.6 mpg-- including testing.

Worst of 7.3 mpg -- not during testing surprisingly. This came during our GMR run.

Best of 15.1 mpg which were mostly highway miles.

Josh stopped making LFA noises long enough to relay this bit:

"Finally, know that regardless of the LFA's perceived performance cost/benefit, it is a very special car. The sound, the feeling of acceleration and the unbelievable handling (75.0 mph slalom) combine to create an unmatched experience. Knowing that I'll probably never drive another one and that there are so few in the world made it a truly valuable experience."

My question is, has Lexus sold all of the cars they have made to date? Or are they building to order, and if so, how many will they build?

I'm surprised the worst tank was on the GMR run. I don't usually see a massive drop in fuel economy on my GMR blasts. I think that either means I drive too hard all the time or I don't push hard enough on GMR.

There was an LFA doing VIP laps at the Long Beach Grand Prix this weekend, and it seemed much quieter than it did when I drove it. Maybe our ear drums were already destroyed from the other cars and the concert, but I had to turn to my wife and explain "No really, the one I drove really did sound God ripping the fabric of the sky in half."
